The term negative scanning is used in both film slides and photo negatives. Use batch scanning mode for your negative scanning.

Storing camera film negatives will give the disturbance in quite natural way. But in today’s photography world, you can store them in digital format. Negative scanning and storing them in digital format is very easy, but you have to select the right tools to do that work.

Negative scanning at home by using flatbed scanner:

If you have scanner at your home with right adapter then you can scan slides and negatives by using the simple flatbed scanner at your home. While working with your flatbed scanner, you have to keep in mind that just keeping your negatives on the scanner will not work. This is because negatives are transparent. This scanner will work by capturing the light, which is reflected on them. To do the negative scanning, you need transparency adapter. If you used this transparency adapter in your scanner then it focus the light on negative from above. At this time, the sensors of the scanner will capture this light and convert it into the digital image. If you do not use this transparency adapter in your scanner and you scanned your negatives then it will provide a big black square only.

Negative scanning at home by using film scanners:

If you are intended to scan the negatives continuously they try to purchase the scanner which is designed for negative scanning or film scanning. This scanner will provide a good quality pictures, because these is no glass between the image sensor and the negative of the film. These scanners contain more DPI resolutions when compared with flatbed scanners.

These scanners will provide better images with more density. These images density is approximately 2.0, and the negatives density is about 3.0. Basically, the flatbed scanners are designed for photographs and document purpose and these are adjusted to 2.0 density which results total loss.

High resolution is the key part:

Any scanner you can use for negative scanning that means you can use either film scanner or flatbed scanner, but the most important thing is the resolution. If you want high resolution image then the process will take a little extra time. So if you want high resolution and good quality images then you have to wait for some time.

Important tips:

• Before starting your negative scanning, you have to adjust the DPI resolution up to 3000.
• Use TIFF file format for your negative scanning. This type of file format was used by the professionals.
• There are different types of resolutions, those are Kodak ICE, never, ever, crop and without. Use these resolutions on your image.
• This negative scanning will contain number of memories, which play a key role in photo restoration.
• You should take care of previous memory during negative scanning.
