There is so much to do when you own your own business. In addition to creating and selling your own product or service, you have to continually market your company to keep the customers coming. If you are having trouble coming up with new ways to advertise, here are some ideas to get you going.
Create Your Materials
The first step is to create a variety of marketing materials with your name, logo, slogan, and contact information on the items. Goodies like mugs, cozies, key chains, pens, erasers, and bumper stickers are great to have on hand to give to people. And you'll want to have some standard materials as well; you will need poster printing ads, have business cards made, and possibly create a brochure.
Have a Booth at Local Events
Go to all the events in your area; you can set up a booth and give away your marketing items and samples of your product. At some events, you may be able to sell your product as well. Events to attend might include job fairs, business conventions, expos, county fairs, local festivals, and fundraisers. Be sure to plan a poster printing project so you have an attractive poster to attract potential customers to your booth.
Use the Local Newspaper
You can put an ad in the classified section or the main section of the newspaper. You can also call the editor and see if they would like to do a story on your business; small papers are always looking for material -- it might help if you have something new and exciting going on like a business opening.
Advertise in the Phone Book
Pay a little extra money and have your phone listing larger than the standard, both in the white pages as well as the yellow pages. A larger ad always catches the eye quicker than those that get lost among other business names. Plus, by being more accessible in the phone book, customers can always easily look you up if they lose your business card.
Put Posters up Everywhere
Put your poster printing dollars to good use and display those posters everywhere you can think of. Ask other local business owners if you can display your poster in their shop in exchange for displaying an advertisement of theirs. You can also put posters up at the chamber of commerce, college campuses, and local libraries.
Sponsor a Coloring Contest
You could sponsor a coloring contest at an elementary school. The winner gets a prize from your business. Getting involved in the community by sponsoring contests or even ball teams helps your business get recognition as well as gets you positive PR.
Use Local Media
Contact local radio or TV stations and offer to host a local broadcast. You can also offer prizes for events in exchange for having your business name mentioned over and over on the radio.
Advertise on the Internet
Lots of people look for goods and services online, so be sure your website is well designed. You can also advertise on classifieds like Craig’s List. You may even want to invest in an Adword campaign. Just make sure that all of your online marketing matches your offline marketing tone and style.
