Here's some tips which should help with both your performance and success at interview.

  • Do the journey to your interview venue in advance. There's nothing more stressful than setting off to your interview and starting to think along the way you might not make it! There's no need for this source of nerves. Do the journey in advance and time it, then add thirty percent onto the time and leave yourself this much time to allow for traffic Jams and such like. If you have a long an unpredictable journey, go the night before and stay in a Travellodge, it may be the best investment you've ever made.

  • Swot up on the company in advance. Uncertainty about what questions you will be asked is another source of nerves, and indeed whether you can answer them. Some questions are predictable, like "What do you know about our company?" Really go to town on your company research, being over prepared for a question you know you will get is a nice comfortbale feeling that will have you waiting with anticipation for it rather than dreading it.

  • Meeting a stranger will always be an uncertain event, what will they be like, loud or quiet, calm or aggressive. Worrying aboy the nature of your interviewer is often a source of nerves which can easily be removed. Your graduate recruitment agency is likely to be familiar with the recruiting manager and should be able to gove you a good picture of which he or she is like. Spend some time asking questions about them, build up a strong image of what they are like and remove this source of nerves.

  • Try taking exercise before the interview. Your body is full of wonderful hormones called endorphins which are released upon exercise around your body. These hormones delver an incredibly relaxing feeling. If you've ever worked out in a Gym, then showered afterwards, that feeling of relaxation is created by endorphins. It's almost impossible to feel nervous when you're drowning in endorphins. If you're interview is in a hotel, turn up 2 hours early and use their gym, it'll cost you around £5, an excellent investment!

  • Set up a hive of graduate recruitment activity. If you only have one opportunity on the go, the uncertainty about the outcome is a sure killer for your nerves. Apply to lots of different jobs and generate several processes at once, then, there's less uncertainty around any one interview, and therefore less nerves associated to it.

If you've been suffering from nerves during the graduate recruitment process, don't resign yourself to this, there is plenty you can do to reduce the effects of nerves and increase your performance, and of course, increase your chances of getting a job. Follow these simple tips and you'll like the results.
