There are different jobs boards available in graduate recruitment and if used properly they can work very well to help find the right job, offering a range of features to help you in your search and draw your attention to that perfect job. There are various features available and the following list gives some insight

Always look out for keyword searches when undertaking job search. This tool searches all text within job adverts for any terms which you may use, this allows you to home in on certain areas of interest. For example if you were interested in working in the area of pharmaceuticals, you would use this in the search to narrow down the field and this would have the advantage of highlighting areas which you may not have thought of.

The company directory is a very useful tool and will allow you to research all companies in which you have an interest, there will be details available for contact and links to web sites. You can then look out for companies which you think may be a good potential employer, or search for the recruitment agency which best suits your needs. Most boards will have a visible directory of all companies, both graduate recruitment and client companies, within a certain sector.

Jobs boards also offer news section, these are very useful for being able to look through both old and breaking news, and many jobs boards will let you register to get news updates as soon as they are posted – this allows you to be bang up to date with what is going on in your particular industry and also will impress any potential employers showing you to be on the ball with what is going on.

Another good use of the jobs board is in the area of CV searches. This works by you posting you CV onto the jobs board and this is an excellent way for you to be very visible and ‘in the job market’. This can save you a lot of time chasing around for a suitable job as the agency will come to you, rather than you having to go to them. One of the downsides of this method is that you and your CV are out there on view for all to see, and this could also be your current employer. Some sites have overcome this issue by selection, in this way you only allow those you want to be seen by to view you details. This should stop your employer from being able to see you are out there advertising. However a word of warning as this method does not always work, so beware.

Another method is to post your job profile, stating the type of work you are looking for and the area where you wish to work. This works very well in sending out an email which should match your profile and requirements and gives you the opportunity to move fast and make an application. This method does not always work as I can testify, although I have used this system and stipulated my requirements I constantly receive jobs which do not match, which is both time wasting and frustrating.

For graduate recruitment there is also job alerts by text. This system works in the same way as email alert, but you are notified instead by your mobile. The disadvantage of this method is that you will be charged, so be careful to understand any terms and conditions which apply and that you are in agreement with them.

Blogs and forums can also be very useful when looking at graduate recruitment. You can quickly and easily gain information from others by a simple enquiry as this method allows you entry into the community. This method can be very useful to find out about a company or job and may save you a lot of wasted time searching for something which is not suitable to you.

Article libraries are another facility offered by jobs boards and these are very helpful with information and guidance when developing and progressing your chosen career.

As you can see there are many options out there for advertising yourself and gaining information. The internet has broadened the choices and ways to search for jobs enormously. However a word of warning at this point might be advantageous, be very careful about what information you put out there about yourself, once posted it is available to anyone to view, so take care.
