A material such as 17-4 pH Stainless Steel is an amazingly versatile material. In fact there are many things about this hard metal that may surprise you. This material is often used for making refining equipment for the oil and gas industry and in aerospace applications. It is also used to make food preparation equipment, chemical processing equipment, and for general metalworking. In other words, there are far more uses for 17-4 pH Stainless Steel than meet the eye.
Other than the versatility though, what is it about this particular metal that makes it attractive?|What makes this metal attractive besides it’s versatile nature?
Corrosion resistance. Many of the applications that 17-4 pH Stainless Steel is used for need substances that aren't going to easily break down and stop functioning. In other words the equipment needs to fight off corrosion and be built to last. Refining equipment and aerospace equipment need to function for years without downtime or frequent maintenance and/or repairs. Materials that are subject to corrosion cannot stand up to the job requirements that this material matches quite nicely.
Strength. There is not enough that can be said to stress the importance of strength in each of these applications. Strength is an absolute necessity when you are building equipment that has strenuous jobs like refining equipment, processing equipment, and food preparation equipment. It may seem as though the strength is a little bit overrated but when it comes to countless years of doing the same job repeatedly for countless hours at a time you will begin to see how important that strength really is.
Cost effectiveness. Using 17-4 pH Stainless Steel is a every cost-effective way to produce materials, more cost-effective than many other materials. One common alternative that is often bypassed for the most cost effective stainless steel is high nickel non-ferrous alloy. This material may be strong and it will withstand some degree of corrosion but it isn't nearly as budget friendly as stainless steel tends to be.
When the time comes for your next major project and you are selecting the tools that will help you get the job done, you should consider the true value that 17-4 pH Stainless Steel presents for the life of the project as well as the financials.
