Door to Door vs an Online Presence

When a lot of people think about network marketing, they immediately think about knocking on doors, feeling unwelcome, and like they always have to convince prospects. The most common scenario in my experience is when people join a network marketing opportunity and target first their friends and family. One thing to keep in mind is that friends and family are a good place to start, however, most of them will simply buy your product or join your company to help you get started. Once you have signed up your immediate family, cousins, and in-laws, the fear and discomfort sets in because now you must go out into the world and truly convince people who aren't related to you that your product or service is worth their investment. Many people lose their momentum at this point.

Some people don't have the time to give you their full attention. In the hustle and bustle of today's busy world, you're bound to catch people on their way to school to pick up their kids, on a 30 minute lunch break, on their way to church, or tending to the abundance of everyday duties we all have. Even when you tell it a lot of people that your spill will only take five minutes, they're simply too much in a hurry and need to reschedule or just aren't interested due to their demands.

Some people just flat out lie to you. I remember when I was a sales rep for a motor club and would go door to door hoping to pique someone's interest about the awesome roadside service and accidental benefits that this company provided. While some presentations went very well and resulted in a sign up, some people rescheduled for me to come back at a time they knew they would be gone. This wasted my gas and time, but I accepted it as part of the game. And to tell you the truth, it really is part of the game. People who don't want to give you a straight "No" will give you false hope by acting interested all the while not having even a slight interest in your opportunity. But that's just the way it is. This is the reason most network marketers make sure that they give their presentation at least 10 times a day. Some who tell you that they are going to act on your opportunity are not going to act on it at all.

Some people just aren't a suitable prospect. Why would you try to share a moneymaking opportunity with a person who has no work ethic, is not a self-starter, is undisciplined, and is not even the type of person that you can picture doing your job. Network marketers sometimes waste half of the day by approaching people who may not even be capable of taking advantage of the opportunity. Target people who don't need to be pushed and held by the hand. Even if you get them to sign up and you make a commission check, you may have to spend your time doing the things they need to be doing just to get them started. In this type of business, the key is to sign people up, help them get started, and their performance earns you more money. Why spend your time trying to introduce someone to a business who is not going to take it past the first level.

Instead of looking for people who may be suitable prospects, get in a place where true prospects can find you. The Internet is the ideal tool to make you and your opportunity easily accessible. Article marketing is a great place to start. Hopefully you're involved with an opportunity that you are somewhat interested in and know a few things about. Write and publish short articles that are relevant to your field of work and your opportunity offered. Provide links back to your site so that people can easily find a place to either contact you or sign up. You can even build a simple webpage with a picture relevant to your product or opportunity, and use a free service such as the one offered by Get Response to insert a small contact form so that the prospect can leave their name and e-mail address. Now you are on your way to building a mailing list that will benefit you greatly in the future. People who hear about your opportunity only once may not take the bait, and by collecting their e-mail addresses you can put your opportunity in front of their faces on a weekly or monthly basis. Don't overload them with information all at once. This could cause them to identify you as a spammer.

There is much material available online to help you with your Internet marketing efforts. I'm not telling you to abandon the traditional methods of network marketing, I am simply informing you of other paths and strategies that can prove beneficial if taken in to consideration. Happy Networking!
