Making the layout for large poster printing is typically almost like normal poster printing. The only difference really is that you will be working with bigger images with all the care and consideration that comes into printing them. In this article I will give you a few tips on how to layout your designs for large poster printing. This should give you a nice guideline on what to do as you create your layout in large sizes.
Managing your central piece or object.
All large color posters are designed with a central piece in mind. This can be a product, a model or a combination of both. Sometimes even words are used as a central piece for large poster printing.
Now, while the most logical place to put your central piece or object is at the center, in actuality you might want to avoid this. The best layouts of large posters have their products placed just a little bit off center, to the left or to the right. This gives the design a touch irregularity that should cause people to notice it more readily.
Knowing how to balance.
If you added your central object off center, you should of course try to balance it with something else. While there is no actual weight in terms of design, our eyes still crave a certain kind of symmetry when it looks at the images in posters and the “weight” of the different sides of a large color poster will matter. So for example, if you have an image of a model slightly off center to the right, a smaller object should be on the left side of your poster that offsets that central piece. This gives your large color posters a good symmetry that should flow better in people’s eyes.
Keeping the proper perspective.
Also in doing your layouts, it is important to keep the proper perspective. The sizes and scales of your objects from foreground to background should follow a logical relationship. This preserves the sense of realness in a poster as people's eyes will see nothing wrong in the natural order of the designs. So make sure you adjust your images properly so that your large posters will have a collection of images that should look natural in terms of perspectives.
Keeping the proper resolution.
Finally, to make sure nothing gets distorted, it is important to keep the proper resolution of images. The resolution will determine if your poster layout will look sharp or fuzzy. Especially on large color posters, this is a big issue since the printing will require high resolution images to make sure the images turn out right. So make sure you have the best resolution by using photographs and images with the highest possible image quality and size.
So those are the basic tips that you should know about the layouts for large posters. Try to remember them as you print your large posters. It should help a lot in saving time and money in creating your layouts.
