Public Relations for Losing Sports Teams

Getting people to come to professional sports games when the team has been losing all season is not easy. It seems like the bad news is only what the media will print. When the headlines turn against a sports team it is time to call in the public-relations specialists and start getting in with the community and promoting some good will. Perhaps autograph signing at the local malls or youth sports coaching by the players.
All these things can help a losing sports team bring out people to watch them play. It is also amazing that once more people come to watch them play that they start to win some games and then public relations becomes very easy.
The media seems to love to build people up and then tear them down and when a team is losing they will sometimes tear down the team and write some rather harsh articles. This is where the public-relations specialist needs to be in constant contact with all the local media outlets in order to prevent such things otherwise the publicity team will be dealing with public-relations crisis, rather than developing positive goodwill for the sports team.
Public relations is not an easy game and it takes work, networking and a little intuition. When everything is going good public relations can hardly make a mistake, but when the going gets tough the tough public-relations specialists get going. Please consider all this in 2006.
