When in last century world witnessed a revolution in the field of information technology the whole concept of communicating under went a radical change. This change initiated the emergence of the ground breaking communicating methods like basic telephone, mobile phones, E-mails, Internet and more recently the VoIP method. This change received an overwhelming response from the audience. In no time methods like basic or landline telephone connection and mobile phones grabbed the maximum popularity. But slowly and gradually mobile phones outplayed basic telephone owing to its various advantages like the portability and small size and various other features.

But one main feature that helped mobile phones in scoring over the basic telephone was the feature of SMS. Yes the acronym for Short Messaging Service. This service enabled the users to send and receive the text matter to other user of mobile phone through the network. This method was unique and yet at the same time was very different. It is because in this method there was lot more surety regarding to the receiving of message. This vital factor was missing in the normal method of sending and receiving post cards and inland letters. Also this service was more stylised method of sending messages. In addition to that the pace at which these messages are received and send was also very fast.

Although in comparison to the normal procedure of sending text messages through post this was expensive but as the time progressed so did the rates of this service also came down, thus making it a cheaper service then the normal one.

Now the condition is that SMS has became a necessity for the users of mobile phones. It is a service that now every network provider offers. Not only are the network providers making sure that the rates that they charge very nominal rate on customers to use this service. It is because this SMS service has become the lifeline for all the youngsters. Be it in high school or college young students or generation needs these mobile gadgets to stay in touch with their friends and near and dear ones. All their conversations generally occur with the help of these short messages. Since the network providers realise this hence every now and then they come up with new scheme or the other to lure this age group in subscribing their connections. Many network providers also offer schemes where the users can avail the scheme and get to send SMS almost for free.

But that's not all, these text messages or so called short messages play an important role in today's reality shows running on television channels like American idol, big brother, dancing shows and all kinds of other shows. In reality shows like this the participants in the show ask for votes from audience of show through SMS and this procedure is repeated until the winner is decided from their votes or in other words text messages. More recently the organisers of beauty pageants like Miss World, Miss Universe have also adopted this method. As according to them it is the most impartial method of deciding the winner in these types of shows. Thus it is evident that this method of sending and receiving messages has just become popular and popular. This type of messaging is now playing an important role in every person life. It is because in some of the countries they are also being used as a method to elect the representatives of the countries.

In addition to that news channels nowadays are using this way of short messages to know the reaction of common public over a particular issue. Also this method is also being employed as an effective way of determining the mood of public.

The end verdict is that this short messaging service has now become a part of every one life today.
