Among the many types of scanners available today are aperture card scanners. These are small scanners that are used to digitize things like microfilms of large format drawings. These are specialty scanners and are not for use by everyone. They are mostly used by architectural and construction firms for storing the microfilms of their large format drawings. However, with the developments in technology, digital filing has become cheaper by the day and has begun to serve as an alternative to microfilm filing. Besides this, digital filing is also more flexible, requiring lesser space than filing on microfilms.

There are many manufacturers that make a range of aperture card scanners suitable for every type of requirement. Most of these scanners have their own unique selling properties or individual performance characteristics. So, whether one needs to scan one card a day for one?s CAD system or produce a paper plot from a digital image, aperture card scanners can do it quickly and rapidly. One can even scan one's entire ?back file? into one?s document management at the rate of over seven hundred cards per hour using aperture card scanners.

Most of these aperture card scanners often come with some software making them compatible with the operating systems that one works on. This ensures maximum user control, and newer technology produces great image quality.

However, while one is searching for an aperture card scanner, one needs to ensure the dpi of the final scan result. Many of them generally give a maximum output of around 400 dpi. The other thing to keep in mind is the speed of scanning. There are scanners that can scan hundreds of cards per hour.
