Madonna Kid a Lucky Stiff

Talk about luck. Imagine winning the lottery twice in the same week? Basically, this is what happened to the African child from Malawi plucked out by Madonna to become her adopted son. The incredible luck for this child is unspeakable. Born into grinding poverty with little hope, this kid is going into a fairy tale situation. His mother died at childbirth and his father is an illiterate farmer basically looking to put the kid into an orphanage. Then Madonna, of all people, steps in to take him away from it all. Wow!
Malawi is another African nation with problems. AIDS is rampant with roughly 14% of the population having the disease. About a million orphans exist due to their parents dying of AIDS. Per-capita income is about $1 a day. Famine is not uncommon with roughly 25% of the population dealing with severe food shortages. Who the hell would not want to get out?
Some humanitarian organizations are upset that Madonna pretty much skipped the whole process to adopt a child. What a shock. Reports are she paid the government roughly 3 million dollars allegedly for orphanages. This being Africa you unfortunately have to wonder if that money will go for its intended purpose.
Even the father, Yohane Banda, is now claiming he did not understand the meaning of "adoption" and figured Madonna and her hubby were pretty much just going to get the kid educated and fly back and forth to Malawi. It would be highly surprising if the father gets the kid back. He is utterly powerless and poor in a nation starved for dollars. Some gov't officials have even expressed comments basically calling for Mr. Banda to pipe down. Anyway, if the kid is forced back into Malawi don't think it will be, "Gee, thanks dad," as he gets older. More like, "Dad, can I hit you now or later?"
Of course, there has been a long history of white people coming to Africa doing all sorts of good works. Much is often overshadowed by the history of colonialism and modern-day nationalism. This is now extending itself to celebrities coming to the continent and adopting children like Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt recently did. It would be highly interesting to see a black celebrity going to Eastern Europe to adopt a white child away from some of the poverty of the land. Now that would be news!
Outside of Madonna and Mr. Guy Ritchie being abusive parents- which there is absolutely no evidence of- this is a big win for the child. Hell, children of any race from any land would be lining up for such an adoption. A few adults, too.
Of course, this once again shows the incredible luck to be in places like America, Canada or much of Europe. It is utterly mind-boggling how some people not only take it for granted but then degrade it. But few leave. Perhaps the haters should spend some time in Malawi or Iraq or much of Central America and compare. One thing is for sure: this kid is one of the luckiest people of all time.
