You need to make sure you choose the right flowers for the big day - how to do that - go and see a specialist wedding florist. I have put together my top tips to ensure that you pick the flowers in the right season for the perfect wedding.
Spring flowers
Bulb flowers such as Narcissus hybrids, daffodils, tulips and hyacinth are in season. Many of these have a delightful scent. Indeed, a great number of spring-flowering plants are scented, including wax flower, lily of the valley and lilac. This is also the season for blossom - cherry blossom would set off any spring wedding.
Summer Flowers
Summer is a time of abundance for flowers, with all colours and shapes available. For something traditionally meadow- such as lady's mantle and Chrysanthemum. Similarly cottage-garden in appearance are sweet pea and sun flowers. More exotic summer flowers include foxtail lily and the bright sky-blues of agapanthus and hydrangea.
Autumn Flower
Autumn brings the rich colours of dahlia, gladiolus, late sunflowers, and red hot poker. Cooler shades can be found in globe thistle, Chinese aster , obedience plant sedum. Foliages also get interesting, with rich colours, berries, seedpods and twigs coming into season.
Winter Flowers
Winter is not a barren, bleak time for flowers - as well as flowers available all year round (see below) there are early bulb flowers like hyacinth, tulip, narcissus, and hellebore; southern hemisphere exotics such as protea, kangaroo paw and Euphorbia fulgens and not forgetting poinsettia; as well as foliages including hollyberry add much-needed colour.
All year round Flowers
Many flowers and foliages are now available all year round. This may mean that at certain times of the year they cost more but if you've got your heart set on it stretching the budget a little is the least you can do. Flowers that are not in season traditionally either get grown in artificial environments or get flown in from a country where they have a natural climate for growing these. , as they have been grown with added heat and light, or flown in from far countries. Typical all year round flowers include carnation, gerbera, iris, lily and rose with orchids and birds of paradise being a little more tropical.
What flowers will I need?
You will need your flowers which will be bouquets for the bride and bridesmaids, button holes for the groom, father of the bride and groom, best man, and flowers for the mother of the bride and groom.
What about flowers for the wedding reception?
Think about how you would like your tables at the wedding reception to appear. Be practical, there is no point having a huge floral display on the wedding tables if your wedding guests cannot see each other over it.
