Let us go back to the verse we looked at in part one. If you haven’t read part one be sure to read it before you read this. You can find it under the same heading from the expert author link at the bottom of this article.

The seventh verse
1 John 3:10

10 In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is he who does not love his brother. What is righteousness? Would it not be doing what is right in the sight of God? Can we really say to God that we have permission to divorce and it is the right thing for us to do before Him, when He clearly states in Malachi 2:16 that He hates divorce? Is doing something God hates, righteousness? John states that a person that does not love his brother is not of God also. Are you of God? Do you love this person you are about to divorce? Let us look at what love is, by using the text book of life. The Amplified Bible has a good rendering.

The eighth verse is
1 Corinthians 13:4-8 (Amplified Bible)
4Love endures long and is patient and kind; love never is envious nor boils over with jealousy, is not boastful or vainglorious, does not display itself haughtily. 5It is not conceited (arrogant and inflated with pride); it is not rude (unmannerly) and does not act unbecomingly. Love (God's love in us) does not insist on its own rights or its own way, for it is not self-seeking; it is not touchy or fretful or resentful; it takes no account of the evil done to it [it pays no attention to a suffered wrong]. 6It does not rejoice at injustice and unrighteousness, but rejoices when right and truth prevail. 7Love bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and it endures everything [without weakening]. 8Love never fails [never fades out or becomes obsolete or comes to an end]. As for prophecy ([a]the gift of interpreting the divine will and purpose), it will be fulfilled and pass away; as for tongues, they will be destroyed and cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away [it will lose its value and be superseded by truth].

Considering the verse above can you now answer me this.

Do you love this person that you once married? If you say you do, then this verse says you cannot give up. For verse 7 says Love bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and it endures everything [without weakening]. Of course you cannot endure in your own strength, you have to repent of all your ill feeling and ask for God’s strength, but the love of God will let you endure all things. If you say you don’t love your spouse anymore, then how can you say that you are a child of God?

You see, the scriptures have you in a bind. To obey is really better than sacrifice. Divorce essentially is not the best way simply because you are saying to God that He is not good enough to heal your marriage and you can’t love like this verse says as a Christian that you can. Divorce is following the ways of men, taking counsel from men and following the ways of the world. Divorce is loving the world and its customs. Yeah it’s the most popular option today among Christians, it’s not what God desires, it’s not a good witness to the world, but divorce is so popular today that even pastors counsel for a couple to go ahead, and then will re-marry a person who divorced.

You know why in the western world in the past thirty years we have come up with no fault divorces instead of only divorce on grounds of proven adultery? It’s because the world as evil as it is wants to be able to be married to their new spouse. And if their former spouse that they left had not committed adultery they could not re-marry. The world has said to God through the changing of the Mosaic Law, we do not accept God or Jesus giving us the rules for divorce, so from this day on we are going to be able to divorce for any reason we like. They call this, “No fault divorce.” Yet the funny thing is, if you ask any person divorcing their spouse under this new scheme of men, you will find they can point to many faults in their former spouse. If you divorce under any grounds other then sexual immorality your divorce is NOT even recognised by God. And this means that the next marriage is not even a marriage but simply adultery.

Now you may be saying.“ All of this is too hard! We live under grace now.” Well yes we live under grace now, and you were given grace so that you could obey God and have the power to obey God. Living under grace is essentially walking in the Spirit and loving your fellow man, and divorcing is not showing grace it is simply giving up and doing things man’s ways. God says quite clearly that following the ways of the world and loving the way the world does things puts you in a dangerous position with Him.

The ninth verse says:
James 4:4 (Amplified Bible)

4You [are like] unfaithful wives [having illicit love affairs with the world and breaking your marriage vow to God]! Do you not know that being the world's friend is being God's enemy? So whoever chooses to be a friend of the world takes his stand as an enemy of God. Do you think a no fault divorce is being God’s friend? Do you think following the world’s ways is quite alright with God? The New King James version calls you an adulterer. James 4:4

4 Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Following the world and it’s ways is not the best way to be God’s friend. You might walk in the anointing, you might prophesy and cast out demons and do all sorts of signs and wonders. But if you are not God’s friend, are you not going to hear the words on the last day, “Depart from me, I never knew you. You who practice lawlessness.” It’s a sober warning. No fault divorce is not the way of God or Jesus. He forgives us our sins when we repent, but in divorcing our spouse we are saying we do not forgive them Lord and we don’t trust you can work this out. Am I saying a lady should continue living with a violent husband? Of course not! All I am saying is that you should look clearly at what the Word of God says in the scriptures that I have shared with you.

Loving your spouse is forgiving your spouse. Divorcing your spouse is doing something God hates. My wife divorced me with one of these no fault divorces. According to Jesus in the Bible, this is no grounds for divorce. So her current husband is not a husband, but she is living in adultery and is unrepentant and therefore is not forgiven by God. Worse still her new father in law conducted the wedding as she married a pastor’s son. Not only did she do something that is an abomination before God, but a pastor freely married her.

I am single today as the scriptures tell me I cannot re-marry. I know as I write this only one in fifty of you will agree, such is the miss teaching in this area, the very opposite of what the scriptures say quite clearly. Every opposition to what I have said here is based on a man’s interpretation of the Bible not on the Holy Spirit’s teaching.

Are you wise in your understanding? Do you think you can simply throw away your marriage and pretend that you did not read this? Oh it’s easy to say that I am wrong, much easier than trying to face the fact that you cannot re-marry when you divorce. The fact that millions of born again Christians, including pastors and evangelists and prophets and Apostles have done it, does not mean it is right or scriptural.

Was it not Jesus that said, “Narrow is the path that leads to life and FEW find it?” In the place below where I can suggest a link I have included a web address where you can read what the early church fathers said on the issue of divorce and re-marriage. You’d think that people that lived close to the times of the Apostles would have a really clear understanding of the Apostle’s teachings on this subject. I urge you to go and read what is written in that document. Let’s look at what James has to say about making something God hates, your solution. The tenth verse James 4:7-10

Humility cures worldliness

7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9 Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. 10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.

It is now 7 am and it has taken me two and a half hours to type this message. I encourage you to spend at least that amount of time reading the work that I link to below. There is not much talk about this side of the divorce and re-marriage issue, I encourage you to pray, to seek the Lord and to read the information presented in the link I have provided.

It’s not easy for me to post this article. This does not come in anger or in spite, or neither has this come about because I do not forgive my former wife. It is time for the Word of God to be obeyed, and I have only lost sleep this day as the Holy Spirit directed me to get up and do this.

If this makes you cry as the Word of God ministers to you and you see divorce really is against God’s will for you, I would be happy to pray for you if you contact me. If you strongly disagree with this article I have written and want to tell me so, that is fine also as I will be only too happy to pray for you also.

I have to say here that in the Old Testament times most prophets were killed for their message. The Truth of the Word of God is not always what the majority of the church believes. In the Old days a prophet was sent to rebuke a backslidden Israel and turn them toward God and His ways. Today I am that prophet because whatever you or anyone says

GOD STILL HATES DIVORCE!

Matthew shares his faith on the streets of Sydney through conventional evangelism and prophetic evangelism, he preaches sometimes at the churches he attends, and is part of an online prayer website where he prays for people online at http://www.online-prayer.net

He writes articles here each week when he gets the time and would love to hear from you if you have a question for him.

The further reading on divorce and re- marriage that he mentions in this article can be found at http://www.marriagedivorce.com/mdebook.htm.
