The term ecstasy has multiple meanings. Interestingly, the keyword -- Ecstasy -- can have sexual connotations and also religious overtones. Ecstasy basically means those emotional, psychological as well as mental situations that induce a state of peace. It is similar to a trancelike environment when the person moves into a different realm altogether that is far away from the present madding world of pelf and power. The mendicants and many other common people induce the state of ecstasy through regularly practised meditations. Ecstasy reduces awareness about the present world and broadens the spiritual state. Many people in such ecstatic awareness reportedly encounter euphoria. These ecstatic euphoric visions can be very frequent in their appearances and are emotional or intuitive and even physical in nature.

In fact, many mental training packages that are in the market today profess to make the trainees experts in inducing such ecstatic moods. Many gymnasiums also provide the means to go into the ecstasy state through yogic sessions. The ecstatic mind, in this meaning, enables the person to seek typical experiences and also communicate in a telepathic manner with a person who also happens to be in that ecstatic mood in a predefined moment anywhere on earth. In other words, a person in ecstasy actually moves away from the world of ordinary consciousness.

The word has also come to be used as a brand name for the MDMA (3,4 Methylenedioxymethamphetamine) drug that promotes sexual stimulation among its users. Merck – the German medicines company – had Ecstasy patented in 1914. It was initially used as a suppressant for appetite. Just because Ecstasy can induce a feeling of openness and a carefree nature, in the 1970s it was recommended to patients undergoing psychotherapy so that the psychologist can have a peep into the working of their mental states. However, researches conducted on animals proved that this oral medication – Ecstasy – does cause brain damage. Ecstasy was banned in 1986. Related to other drugs like amphetamine and mescaline, Ecstasy is a sexual stimulant and is variously known as ‘E’, ‘Doves’, ‘XTC’, and ‘Adam’ among many other such nicknames.

It is primarily for the last stated reason that the word has been much in use across the globe. Ecstasy is now banned but can still be available across the counters in the neighborhood chemists’ shops on doctor’s prescription. This oral medication popularly known as Ecstasy is being used by teenagers and sexually active people to stimulate their basic instincts and artificially bring about intense delight or joy from physical touches that ultimately lead to sexual acts.

The Ecstasy drug has been banned as it has the potential to permanently destroy the brain nerve cells. Ecstasy can either release serotonin -- the neurotransmitter; or even clog the terminal (synaptic) that actually releases serotonin; or for that matter cut down the serotonin amount within the brain.

Ecstasy is in the same genre of oral medications that cure erectile dysfunction (ED) or impotency among the males. Many people bracket Ecstasy with Viagra, Cialis, and Generic Viagra. Ecstasy can be consumed by both males and females. However, one should always seek the doctor’s opinion prior to taking Ecstasy as people suffering from weak heart or those having blood pressure problems should not take Ecstasy.
