Curing Your Sinusitis
Sinusitis is usually caused by inflammation of the sinuses and nasal passages. In most cases, this inflammation is caused by an infection. Symptoms generally include headaches, a runny nose, some aches and pains, sneezing and fatigue, among others. Since symptoms of a sinus infection are similar to that of a common cold or even allergies, it is not always accurate to assume the kind of infection you have. A cold may be the result of a viral infection and usually resolves on its own. If your symptoms are prolonged and don’t improve after 2 weeks at the least, your infection may be bacterial and can already be sinusitis. To get a proper diagnosis, you can have your doctor examine you so that a proper treatment regimen can be prescribed.
There are various cures available for your sinus infection. Most patients will prefer to be prescribed with antibiotics, but there are also natural ways to try out first before taking antibiotics or any kind of drug:
1. Drink plenty of fluids to help thin out mucous and relieve your nasal congestion. This will also keep you hydrated and help with your headache.
2. Apply a moist hot towel on your face and it will eliminate the pain and pressures on your facial or sinus areas.
3. It is also relieving to inhale steam to moisten your nasal passages to help clear your tubes. You can do this by standing in a hot shower and inhaling the steam while running the water along your face and sinus areas. Or you can boil a pot of water, put a towel over your head and inhale the steam from the boiling pot of water.
4. Take grapefruit seed extract to help you get rid of your symptoms for a couple of days.
5. Potassium supplements dries up mucous.
6. Apple cider vinegar thins out mucous. Drink it throughout the day with large glasses of water.
7. There are also some herbal teas you can drink or juices that not only help with your symptoms but also give you vitamins to help boost your immune system.
These are only some of the simple steps that you can do to cure your sinus infection. In searching for more ways, you can also purchase some over the counter medications that you can take in addition to the above mentioned remedies.
- Acetaminophen or Tylenol can be taken to relieve your headache, fever and pains.
- There are decongestants that can clear your sinus congestions.
- If you are experiencing allergies in addition to your sinus infection, antihistamines are also available for that.
- Taking vitamin supplements can help you fight off or guard you against virus and bacteria that can cause infection. Vitamin A is the best insurance against cold and sinus trouble. Vitamin A helps build healthy mucous membranes in the head and throat. Vitamin C is the best defense because it boosts your immune system.
It is always best to say that prevention is the best treatment or cure to any sickness. So it is good to take all necessary precautions in taking care of your body and living a healthy lifestyle.
