Most people are now very much aware that the current economic climate is challenging to say the least. The average person on the street is not normally alarmed by news of a global financial crisis but when you see your weekly shopping bill rise or your loan application being examined in much greater detail, then you come to realise that the economic problems have filtered all the way down to the individual level and it is time to sit up and take notice.

Now it is becoming clear that the credit crunch is likely to last longer, spread more widely across the world, and hit economic growth more deeply than previously believed. And it is also clear that the UK has not managed any lucky escape from some of the more serious effects of the downturn.

Panic is pointless but caution, research and a little planning will see you come out the other side of this malaise unscathed. Nothing is forever and this too shall pass. Understandably, with income levels being squeezed by higher interest rates, money is tighter and the traditional methods of saving are not as feasible as they once were. Yet there is still a future to plan for, so many are looking at new ways to save money.

Most of us have credit cards and are used to making monthly payments as owing money on your credit card is a part of modern life. Lower interest rates and quality incentives are now common among credit card providers and a little research will prove that to compare credit cards is one way that could help save money, even during times like these.

Taking advantage of special offers can lead to enticing gains. New providers often charge no interest for the first few months and allow you to transfer an existing debt onto your new card at no extra cost, and with no interest payments due for a specified period. This can be very attractive for people making significant monthly repayments with the burden of interest on their purchases.

Much needed breathing space can also be found with providers who offer deals where you don’t have to make any repayments until a specified date after the initial use of your new card. This is good news in an economic climate where the emphasis is firmly on curbing your spending and being more vigilant and prudent with your personal finances, at least for now.

Special deals like zero per cent balance transfers, delayed payment periods and interest free purchases are a helpful way of getting things you want or need during a period of financial constraint. With no shortage of information out there and fierce competition between providers, there is an excellent chance that dedicating a little time to credit card comparison will save you some money.
