If someone is absolutely fit and healthy it could be difficult to predict that he could be diagnosed by a critical illness in the future. As individually this task may become difficult, we could analyse the results obtained if the gross population of the UK is taken into account for example. So let’s have a glance at the incidence rate of critical illness among people.
As per ERC Frankona 1998, one out of every three men may contract a critical illness like heart attack, stroke or cancer before reaching retirement age. The same fate may happen to one out of every five women. Moreover according to the Imperial Cancer Research Fund 1999, 1 of every 3 men in the UK may be diagnosed with a critical illness such as cancer. Probably the most common form of cancer among women may be the breast cancer. Thus in the year 2000, there may have been around 36,000 new cases of cancer which may represent nearly 30 percent of all cancers that women may contract.
Furthermore, this critical illness may have caused other damages. 1 out of every 9 women may develop cancer at a point in their lives. In the year 2002, the death of around 11,500 women in the UK may have been caused by a critical illness like cancer. As cancer stands out to be the most common critical illness among women it may also be the most common cause of death. Additionally, the risks for contracting this critical illness may have also been explained. These can be considered as follows: late first pregnancy, early first period, low parity and late menopause. Other factors such as hormone replacement therapy, increase consumption of alcohol and excess oral contraceptive usage may heighten the risks of suffering from cancer.
In addition to, as per the Office of National Statistics, four out of five new cases of a critical illness such as cancer may be diagnosed among women. Normally, most of these women may be over the age of 50. But more cases concerning this critical illness may be registered in the age group of 50-54. The reason may be that most of these women may have been screened for this critical illness for the first time due to the breast screening programme.
Critical illness conditions like heart disease and stroke may also cause a considerable death rate among people in the UK. Circulatory diseases including heart attack and stroke may have remained one of the leading causes of deaths in the UK. This may have been the case for nearly 90 years excluding the years 1918 and 1919. Critical illness conditions like circulatory diseases may make most women casualties than men. The rate of this critical illness is around 60 percent higher among women. On the other hand, death rates concerning a critical illness such as heart disease may have been higher for both men and women if compared to stroke.
So having a critical illness cover may become very handy in the future. All these statistics may show the incidence rates of the various critical illness conditions. Anyone can contract a critical illness. Physically fit and healthy people may all contract a critical illness. So before this happens to you, you could make the necessary arrangements regarding the financial drain that this may cause in the future, taking out a critical illness cover.
