The History Behind Cialis and its Manufacturers

Eli Lilly is the manufacturer of Cialis (Tadalafil). Cialis has a big advantage over it’s two other competitors and it is a big one. The others last only about four hours after ingested but Cialis can brag about a whopping 36 hours of effective erection time. All erectile dysfunction drugs work from a process called a PDE5 enzyme inhibiter.

In 1993 a drug company Icos began studies on the PDE5 enzyme inhibiter but in 1994one of Eli Lilly's fiercest competitors discovered that Sildenafil Citrate was responsible for heart patients getting erections during their studies.

The testing was not being conducted for purposes of erectile dysfunction but rather for heart disorders. A year after that Pfizer came out with Viagra.

In 1998, Icos and Eli Lilly and Co. joined forces to commercialize the drug for the treatment of sexual dysfunction. Two years later the new company filed a new drug application with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for IC351 and renamed the drug Cialis (Cialis).

Eli Lilly is one of the largest companies in the world and is also a global pharmaceutical company with the main headquarters located in Indiana. Eli Lilly was the founder of this company in 1876, he was a pharmaceutical pharmacist. The reason for Lilly's pharmaceutical conviction was because he was frustrated by the poorly prepared, often ineffective medicines of his day. Consequently, he made these commitments to himself and to society, he would start a company that only manufactured the highest quality goods, and would only be dispensed by a licensed physician and that Lilly pharmaceuticals would always use the best science that was available at that time.
The FDA approved the drug Cialis on November 21, 2003 for use in correcting erectile dysfunction. Cialis was first approved in Europe but just a year later they were granted approval by the US FDA. Again, the advantage being 36 hours vs. a mere 4 and it is also a better value.

Eli Lilly, the makers of Cialis, are responsible for some major breakthroughs in medicine such as Prozac which is used for clinical depression, erythromycin which is an antibiotic, insulin, Cymbalta which is an anti depressant, Gemzar which is used for treatment of pancreatic cancer, Methadone which is used as replacement therapy for opiate addiction, Thimerosal, Secobarbital, Darvocet which is used as a mild pain suppressant, Evista and Forteo which is used in the treatment of osteoporosis, and many other drugs including the world's first selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors for treatment of clinical depression.
