Trims are necessary to keep your work clean, so we really need to know which ones should stay and which ones will have to go.

Extend the default stitch length in fill patterns. The default settings of your digitizing software may be set too low. Extending it will make the stitch count drop, and reducing the stitch count helps you save time in embroidery digitizing. The default stitch length is usually at 3 to 4 mm. Extending it to 5 mm or higher will not change anything but the drop in the stitch count. Not to mention it also helps in the overall look of the design because it does not have many stitches packed in an area.

Use horizontal stitches over vertical stitches when you can. Vertical stitching goes with the pattern of many fabrics, and when the fabric is stretched the vertical stitches is pulled apart. This makes it look as if the design does not have enough stitches. With horizontal stitching, however, the design is still covered when stretched since the stitches prevents the rows of the fabric from pulling apart. This allows your design to stay connected even when stretched. It also allows you to keep your stitch density lower.
