Great Kids Collectibles
Anyone who has a collection of something they are proud of knows how great it feels to show it off. Every new piece to the collection is like another piece of the puzzle. Getting kids into collecting isn’t as easy due to the constant onslaught of new technology and electronics but there are many great collectible ideas that they would appreciate. It’s important that anything collected is something of interest or value to the collector. Get kids into stuff they enjoy.
Movies make good collectibles because over time they become part of the past. Favourite movies are often looked back on with a sense of nostalgia no matter how old they get. Certain movies that are made for kids such as Disney films often come in limited editions which are made for the very purpose of being a collectible.
A true collector’s item that is never bound by time is the book. Books remain popular and in style even when they are hundreds of years old. There are many tales that are considered timeless because the stories simply cannot be labelled by date. A good book can be loved and enjoyed by people of all ages.
Another good kid collectible is TV and movie related merchandise. There are many of us who longingly wish we’d kept that old lunch box from our favourite Saturday morning cartoon or the action figure from a Hollywood blockbuster. Though it’s impossible to tell at the time, many of these items do gain in value years down the line. Those types of things are not produced after the hype wears down. It’s wise to hold on to some of them.
Stickers have been a fun craft accessory for many years. They certainly come in handy in a number of places and activities. And the best part is that they are usually quite inexpensive. Keep a scrapbook filled with all of the stickers you’ve collected over the years or use a photo album. Kids can trade them with friends or display them in a wall hanging. Try making a theme for each page in your sticker scrapbook. Animals, TV characters and so much more can all be collected as stickers.
Coins are great for teaching kids about money. Collector coins from various countries can gather in value over time as well as make beautiful display pieces. Teach your kids about the different places that each one came from. It can significantly open their eyes to the big wide world around them.
Though stamp collecting might not be a child’s first choice, that may soon change as soon as they discover all of the variety in the world of stamp collecting. Stamps now come with so many things on them. Even Disney characters from the movies come on stamps. Most stamps change year to year and that’s what makes them special.
Kids and collecting make a perfect pair. Get them started early so that their collection can really flourish over the years. A collection is just another memory waiting to be made.
