What You Should Know Before Sending Out Your Baby Shower Invitations

A baby shower is a very special event and so naturally it is only fitting that you would want to formally invite your guests. So, unless a baby shower is intended as a surprise or is being arranged in a hurry, then written invitations are invariably the most appropriate method to use. If this is not possible then inviting your guests personally by phone is acceptable and e-mailing your invitations should be avoided despite the fact that they may seem fast and convenient.
If your finances allow then your shower invitations can be custom printed although this is really not necessary and there are a lot of first class pre-printed invitations available on the Internet or locally. As an excellent alternative you can also create your own invitations as long as you have the time and a little bit of creative talent.
As is the case with any party invitations your guests will have to have some basic details such as the name of the person for whom the shower is being given, the name of the host, the date and time of the shower, the location and instructions on how to RSVP.
One other thing to think about including is details of any theme of the event or the shower gift registry and this can be a bit tricky as many people feel that this is presumptuous and puts undue pressure on the guests. Of course this is a matter of personal choice, but one solution that normally works is to leave this out of the invitations, request you guests to reply by phone and then than slip this artfully into the conversion when guests do confirm that they will be attending. Remember though that you will have to have this information to hand when your guests phone and etiquette dictates that you must only give out any shower gift registry information when your guest requests it. When the baby shower is to be a formal affair then you cannot go far wrong if you keep to etiquette but, when the shower is not so formal and includes only close friends then you can probably relax the rules.
The timeline for your baby shower planning is very important and the more advance notice the guests are given the better. As a result, you should aim to mail your invitations out 4 to 6 weeks prior to the shower date and this is especially important if guests from out of town are being invited. If this is not possible then you should certainly aim to mail your invitations out a minimum of 2 to 3 weeks before the party. A good period of notice allows your guests time to sort out their schedules, RSVP and go shopping for appropriate gifts.
It is also important for you to request your guests to pick up the phone and let you know if they will be attending. With all the other tasks involved in planning your shower the very last thing you need is to have to phone around to discover whether some of the guest will be attending. Nonetheless, there will invariably be some guests who fail to reply and so one week before the shower date you will have to make time to contact those people to find out their intentions. An accurate head count will be of considerable help when it comes to making the necessary arrangements for your very special event.
