Today’s carpet is so much easier to clean than it used to be because it is stain resistant. Spots on carpet can be treated in no time at all if gotten to right away. If spots are left for very long, they can soak in, making them harder to remove. This could cause the spots to become permanent in your carpet. Even though you may have stain resistant carpet, stains that set in can spot your carpet. When you first spill something on your carpet, go and get a cloth to absorb the spill right away. Blot the stain with a clean dry cloth. Don’t rub the spill because it could spread the liquid to other places on your carpet. Blot the edges first to keep the liquid from spreading and then keep blotting until all the liquid has been lifted up off the carpet.
If you drop food or other dry particles on your carpet, they can be picked up and vacuumed away. Never use anything on your carpet that could damage your carpet fibers like using brushes for hard scrubbing. For help in removing stains, prior treating of the spot or stain in your carpet is a smart thing to do. There are many carpet cleaning products that will help to remove the spot from your carpet. You should always read the instructions on the back of the cleaner that you choose and follow them carefully. When applying the cleaner, work it into the carpet gently using a blotting method. Keep this up until the stain is removed. Sometimes it may take several times of trying to remove a stain if it is heavily soiled and set into the carpet. Never use more carpet cleaning solution than what the instructions call for when removing stains from your carpet. It is important to follow the directions to make it work the way it should.
If you don’t have any carpet cleaning solution available to use on your carpet, you can try to make your own. First try to remove the spot with water. If the spot is not set in, water may be all that you need. If that does not work, use a very small amount of clear dish detergent with warm water and try to remove the stain again. Sometimes this works very well. Just make sure that the dish detergent contains no bleach. You can also try a solution of white vinegar and water for removing stains on your carpet. It is best to test it out first on a small carpet remnant before trying it on your floor. This is to make sure it won’t cause any discoloration on your carpet.
Pet stains on your carpet can be hard to remove. Many of us have pets and have to deal with stains on a regular basis. Use a spot cleaner for pet stains and try to get these stains up right away. Leaving the stain on the floor for a long period of time can cause the stain to set in and be harder to remove later. It can also cause odors on your carpet that you don’t want in your home.
