Cornwall is lucky to have a holiday that will suit all the family.... including your dog.  After hearing experiences of people trying to find quality accommodation for holidays with their pets, Jo and Pete Olivey at Pols Piece Holiday Apartments on the North Coast of Cornwall decided they would allocate several of their apartments as pet friendly.  They had heard stories of dogs having to be fed in cars and even though the holiday was advertised as pet friendly there were often disapproving looks when a family arrived with their canine friend.  “We are sure we will like you dog once we meet him, and we know they will love the holiday with the family and the long coastal walks we have on our doorstep” says Jo Olivey.

A number of the local beaches are dog friendly although it is worth checking for details with the local council as some beaches enforce a ban on dogs during the summer months.  It is important to always pick up after your dog as fouling the beach and anywhere else in the public domain can mean a fixed penalty notice for the owner.  The beaches are regularly patrolled for this and many penalties are being issued.  There are plenty of dog bins provided to throw away your rubbish.

There are a number of local pubs that will be happy for your well behaved dog to join you for lunch or dinner.  They often have a dog drinking bowl on the ready to satisfy a thirsty dog after a good run along the cliffs.  Many of these pubs specialise in giving you the best of Cornish produce with fresh fish directly from the local waters washed down by an award winning wine from Camel Valley, a local vineyard based near Bodmin.   A holiday in Cornwall would also not be complete without a cream tea, with many pubs, cafes and restaurants offering this local delight.

A good activity for the whole family (including your dog) is the Camel Trail located a short distance away.  It is a path 18 miles long which follows the disused railway line once used by the London and South West Railway.  It then hugs the Camel Estuary from Padstow to Wadebridge and follows the Camel Valley to Bodmin, before heading inland to the foot of Bodmin Moor where it comes to an end at the pretty moorland village of Blisland.  It provides access to many country and seaside towns on the way so ideal for visiting local shops, pubs and visitor attractions.  It is a very well maintained path and ideal for cycling.  If you do not have your own bikes these can be hired easily in a number of places along route.

So Pols Piece welcomes considerate canine friends, but they do ask that you make sure no ducks are chased in the pet’s corner (this is well fenced of), that they do not bark all day and night and they do not bite the postman!   So forget about those noisy kennels or leaving your dog with the in-laws and come and visit the North Coast for a truly dog friendly holiday in Cornwall.
