No matter what type of party you are having, the success begins with good party planning. If you plan carefully, your party will run smoothly, but even neglecting small, seemingly insignificant things, can spell disaster.

This is especially true of children’s parties. Party planning must be done in advance. In a room full of adults, someone can normally run out for extra ice, or call a friend, or cab, if they need a ride home, but when children attend parties, they are totally dependant upon you to have planned well, so they can have their needs attended to, and have a safe, happy, fun filled party experience.

One thing people forget in party planning, is to actively enlist the aid of parents or volunteers to help with the children at the party. There’s not a person alive who can watch 25 seven year olds, serving hot dogs, slicing cake, scooping ice cream, and cleaning a scraped knee. You may think you can do it alone, but you can’t. In a best case scenario, depend on family members or other parents to help out. In a worst case scenario, hire a couple of skilled, teenaged baby sitters, to help watch the children.

During the party planning, make sure the parents know where you live. Try to speak with parents ahead of time if you can, especially if you plan to pick up the children for an after school party. Making definite arrangements to take guests home yourself, or letting parents know when and where to pick up their children after the party, will save time and frustration of having stragglers left behind, not knowing when parents will pick them up. For that reason, during party planning, send invitations early, including your phone number, maps to your home, spell out details, ask how to reach parents in case of an emergency, and leave nothing to doubt. Everyone loves it, when party planning comes together!
