You fill out the questionnaire. It matches almost exactly. You email each other every day. He is sensitive, caring and a great listener. She appeals to your lifestyle, loves your tastes and complements your personality.

Kids…You both love kids! He loves your cats and you love his dogs. You could be soul mates! You both are considering marriage and a life of living together happily ever after.

And you thought it only happens in fairy tales.

Online dating really does hold the wonderful world ofpossibility. Most everyone on dating sites is looking for that right person to spend time with. And, the internet has revolutionized dating. It is now inexpensive and easy to find that special person. And the choices! There are literally hundreds and thousands of personal profiles to breeze through. If you’re persistent, you are bound to find someone you will like.

But unfortunately, the profiles and dating services they are listed on may give a false sense of security. A recent study revealed that most online daters assume that dating companies have already conducted background screenings on their applicants. However, most companies do not.

When someone lists that they are 6’2”, 195 lbs., with an athletic build, but when they show up at the front door and appear to be 5’8”, 225 lbs., wearing an athletic t-shirt, you really don’t need a background check to uncover this most prevalent form of online courtship fraud – misstating personal profile information.

But by just looking at someone, it is impossible to determine if they might be a sex offender, scam artist, crook, pervert, or an unemployed looser looking for their next meal ticket. After all, we’ve all met people that looked perfectly normal, that turned out to be just the opposite.

99.9% of all online daters are just like you. They are looking for love, friendship and companionship. They are looking for someone to spend time with, to have fun with, and maybe someone to spend the rest of their life with. But because that small percentage of what we call “Online Vultures,” a background check is a necessary part of online dating.

They told you they are a doctor or lawyer. They boasted about their beach house and speed boat. They said they have never been married because they spent all their time building their practice. Really? How would you know if they are telling you the truth or lying? They might be the one that has victimized others by stealing their trust and their money. And now they have their sights on you.

What steps do you take to know if they are what they say they are?

First, use your better judgment and common sense. Do they look, act and seem like the person they claim to be?

Second, check their background. Most any company can run a name through a criminal database. But wouldn’t you have more confidence in the background check if it was done by a Licensed Private Investigator? PI’s are trained to check for the obvious, but to also look for the concealed evidence that often reveals the true nature of an individual. Misspelled names, altered dates of birth, incorrect social security numbers, maiden and/or alias names are just a few of the areas that PI’s regularly check, but most background check companies never even consider.

Did you know if a person changes just one letter in the spelling of their name or 1 number in their date of birth, even a person with a long criminal history will come up with no record found? Did you know that our Private Investigators do a more thorough background check for the same price as many firms that use non credentialed employees to do their searches?

For less than the price of hamburgers and a movie, you can have piece of mind. Choose from a basic criminal check to a complete comprehensive background report. Don’t take chances.
