5 College Dorm Shopping Tips
Shopping for college dorm supplies before starting a new semester at school can be a very stressful and hectic experience for students and their parents. Between finding the items you need and packing it all up to take it to school, it can be overwhelming to even know where to begin. Fortunately, it can be a much easier experience if you follow a few simple tips below:
1. Don't Be a Last Minute Shopper: Waiting until the last minute can be a disaster, as most stores are usually out of stock of their back to school supplies often before school even starts. It can be really frustrating when you are not only in a rush but also can't find the things you need. By getting a head start you won't have to worry about rushing around or frantically searching for an item.
2. Make a List: While some people can shop from memory, it really helps to have a list of items you need. There are so many items that you may not think about, such as having a first aid kit, that it is very easy to forget important items. By creating a list you will make sure you don't forget anything. You might also want to include on your list where you can find or purchase the items you need. This will help you minimize the number of shopping trips you will need to make and save a lot of your valuable time.
3. Look for Items Used: You can often find things such as compact refrigerators and other larger, more expensive purchases available at a discount if you buy them used. Thrift stores and resale shops can be a great resource for finding these types of things - you can also have much success on online classifieds and auction sites as well.
4. Buy Online: You can often get many great deals online and you will have a lot more variety. Stores that you visit physically are limited to their inventory and stock. Many times they will run out of an item if there is a large demand for it. When you shop online, there are many more different options and choices available to make it possible to get exactly what you need.
5. Don't Argue About It: Most of the time when parents and their recent high school graduates start preparing for college it can escalate into many arguments about what is needed or what style things should be. This can be avoided if parents allow their child some freedom and responsibility and the student humors his or her parents by compromising to a solution that leaves them both happy. Shopping for things like blankets, towels, and other neccessities for college doesn't need to be a source of conflict.
Shopping for furniture and supplies for your college dorm is an exciting experience and can be a lot of fun. When you follow the tips listed above, you can save yourself a lot of hassle and headaches!
