Computers are widely used these days in all fields of business and at home. A huge amount of data is stored and shared by people, and may be misused if not secured properly. A lot can go wrong if, for example, the confidential data of an insurance company is available to the wrong people. In order to protect this data, some measures are taken which are commonly known as computer security.

Computer security is that specialized field of computer science which focuses on the development and implementation of security measures related to the use of a computer. The computer professionals develop a safe computing platform which enables users to work without worrying about the security of their data.

When your computer is secure you can do whatever you wish without worrying about anybody else getting hold of the data. Different techniques are used to reach this goal. However, machines which have basic security flaws in their designs cannot be protected unless they are changed in some way. This is the main reason why many machines can’t be secured with available security systems.

The computer is susceptible to many attacks, and your goal should be to protect it from undesirable programs. The intrusion may be in the form of any weird email with a virus, or breaking into a weak link in your computer programs. Beware of any unfamiliar looking email in your mailbox, since opening these mails would give an open invitation for the attached virus to make a home in your system. They are a stubborn lot, and once installed will require a great deal of effort on your part to free your machine from this menace.

Many of these viruses install new programs and won’t go away even after you install new security measures in your computer. It is quite difficult to identify these culprits, as they blend easily with your current programs and thus are difficult to remove. The best way to protect your machine is to prevent any of these viruses from entering. After all, we all know that prevention is better than cure.
