In order for the Democrats to take this victory and get a return on the investment made by the voters several key things have to occur.

First and foremost, action. They need action and not words. The Actions need to be constructive, positive and decisive.

Second they need a cohesive front. Even though it is right to disagree with your own party at times we need to see a collective effort at real action with measurable results in all areas of federal and state government.

The decisive actions we need to see immediately are:

1) A positive plan for Iraq and the Middle East. We need a plan that is decisive with clear dates and expectations. This plan needs to include countries other than America in the planning and implementation. The execution of the plan should require milestones to measure results and decide if the actions should continue or be altered to adapt to the reality of a continuously evolving situation.

2) We need to have a very aggressive plan and lead the way for the U.N. to get off it’s butt and deal with the real threats facing the world:

a. North Korea & it’s Nuclear Ambitions

b. Iran’s Nuclear Ambitions

c. Global Terrorism (A or B could sell technology to terrorist)

3) We need to act on the massive crimes against humanity in places like Darfur. After WWII we said never again. Yet genocide happens again & again all over the world. Granted we aren’t the “World Police” but sitting idly by just like everyone else is an endorsement for genocide. Deciding not to act is just as bad as participation.

4) Properly fund education, get our schools back on track and competitive. Focus on what is most important in America, our children.

5) Capture Osama Bin Laden, alive if possible, You can’t kill a martyr, but you can humiliate a man. You can belittle him and show the world how weak and miserable a person he really is by letting him rot in a jail cell, allowed to wear nothing but hot pink clothes in a pink painted cell in front of a 24 hour web cam with no sound.

6) Restore the intended purpose of the 3 branches of government – Checks & Balances. Keep each other honest, outlaw lobbyist, their employees and families from contributing more than $5.00 per year per candidate per race, Politicians go Dutch when it is a lunch or Dinner meeting, They have had some fantastic pay raises and should be able to pay for their own damn meals!

7) Stop corporate welfare, we are a capitalist society that preaches competitive practices in business, sink or swim. Using Tax payer dollars to aid a publicly traded company is absurd and anti-capitalist. It is welfare pure and simple.

8) Focus on the energy problems facing our world and start several X-Prize type competitions to get new technologies created – Having Cadillac’s that get the exact same mileage they did in the 1950’s in unconscionable and criminal neglect.

9) Take a cold hard look at the economy with 5 year, 10 year, 15 year , 25 year, 50 year, 75 year and 100 year goals. Pass laws requiring those goals to be revisited and updated every 5 years. We need to evaluate what it takes to transition away from an oil based economy and focus on a sustainable economy. After all expecting continuous / infinite growth on a planet with finite resources is ludicrous. Planning for sustainability and growth in new technologies is far more realistic.

10) The list can go on & on & on & on……

Americans have voted for a change and end to the FUBAR Boondoggle known as Iraq. Democrats have a chance to prove that they are interested in serving all Americans and they have about 18 month’s to show tangible results in some of the key areas. If they don’t then the chance they have been given will be wasted and Americans, as we have seen, won’t be forgiving.
