Do You Vote?

Many people in the United States of America do not vote. But why would someone give up that right to have a say in the Government? Our ancestors have certainly sacrificed a lot in order maintain a government that is owned by the people. So, why would anyone simply disregard this right to have a choice in our government?

In many nations people risk their lives to go and vote, as we saw with the purple fingers of the Iraqis to have a say in their government. Things seem to be much different in the United States and when you ask some one if they vote or not, often you get quite an interesting response. The other day I ask someone who was complaining about the leadership in Washington DC if they voted or not? He said;

No Way, why should I vote? So, I can be called to jury duty and threatened if I am on a business trip out of the country to get my ass back or face; no show arrest? Or should I vote to cancel out some other moron who voted based on last nights TV show? It makes no sense to vote any more. No one should vote; your vote is worthless. It means nothing and it is obvious they do not care about the folks that put them in office. It is all a sham.

Although the gentleman in his tirade made some good points, it seems he was missing the biggest one. That is if you do not vote then why are you complaining who gets into office? He then launched into another tirade and stated;

Do you vote? You really think you are doing something? Really making a difference? Yah right? It is a utter bunch of horseshit. It is a circus and the last liar wins? Why vote for any of them? He who controls the media controls the minds of the people. If you really want to vote, skip the ballot box and go buy a local cable or TV station and work your way up.

It appears by the shrinking number of voters that indeed many people seem to feel the same way, as fewer and fewer Americans are voting these days. It is so unfortunate to see this, as our freedoms and liberties have been hard fought. Yet, this is currently what is going on in the present period. Consider all this in 2006.
