Election Outcome Shows Disturbing Reality

It’s too bad that the way many Americans vote is based on preconceived notions instilled by their parents, grandparents and maybe a little influence from the bias they were taught in high school social studies.

So many seem to let the smear campaign advertising persuade their votes as well. And sometimes, these ads have little or nothing at all to do with the actual issues facing our states and country as a whole. Many let scandal and allegations take precedence over a candidates qualifications, experience or voting record.

In addition, too many of our people seem to be what I refer to as “one issue voters”. They cast their votes based mostly, if not exclusively, on a single issue that directly affects them. And they do this rather than looking at the whole picture. Essentially, the decisions are somewhat self-centered, focusing on “what’s good for me” rather than “what’s good for the whole of my state or country”.

Maybe it’s just easier and less work to vote this way rather than to actually do a little research into what the candidates are all about.

It seems this voting behavior was quite present in the Nov. 7 elections. The chance of any decent progress being made or legislation passing is now highly unlikely for the short-term future.

I’m not a Republican, and soon will no longer be a Democrat; the parties themselves seem to be about nothing but useless rhetoric. I believe more along the lines of the philosophies of conservative and liberal, which do not completely coincide with party affiliation.

We’ve made our bed, and now we have to lay in it. And in a couple of years, I’m sure we’ll find this bed quite uncomfortable.
