Virtual reality is changing many industries and one industry it needs to change even more is the industry of health and fitness. We all know that you can go to the gym and walk or jog on a treadmill, but what if you could walk or jog on a treadmill, which had a bubble around it with a virtual-reality screen on the inside with a projector displaying scenery? What if you could jog through Yellowstone Park and then jog along the Great Wall of China all the same day? Wouldn't that be totally cool?

Now then, what we really need is a virtual-reality bicycle system, which would have three or four screens in front of you and various angles and these large screen, high-definition, flat-panel displays would give you the road ahead.

Just think you can come to the gym each day and do another stage on the Tour de France or if you could not finish the whole stage then perhaps you could do it in three or four sections, simply stop and then re-start where you left off? The bike of course could either tilt or have a friction device on the pedals or tire in order to simulate going uphill.

If you are only going to work out one hour per day it might take you several months to finish the Tour de France. But wouldn't that be cool? It sure would and it would not be hard to do either. This technological VR system could be built by just putting a camera on one of the bikes or on a motorcycle at the exact height of the eyes of the rider and driving the Tour de France and using that for the display.

The company making the virtual-reality health and fitness special gym bike would then take the film back for editing and there would be a computer running the systems to integrate the stationary bike with the footage that would be viewed in front of you. That would be cool. Please consider this in 2006.
