College Football's Class of 2006 - Troy Smith-Quarterback-The Ohio State Buckeyes
June 29th, 2006
Our feature player today is Troy Smith, Quarterback of The Ohio State Buckeyes. Troy Smith, born July 20th, 1984 in Cleveland, Ohio has come a long way from Glenville High School to where he is today as the #1 signal caller for The Ohio State Buckeyes. After a strong finish in 2005, Troy and his Buckeyes are hungry to get back to Tempe and win another national title at the Fiesta Bowl.
As a junior for The Ohio State Buckeyes, Troy came on strong the last 5 games of the season, posting a 4-1 record, to solidify himself as the hands down starter for the The Ohio State Buckeyes as they enter the 2006 season. During those last 5 games, Troy Smith was the difference maker. Against Michigan, he had an unforgettable performance by racking up 386 yards in total offense, which ranks him third all-time for total yards in a game against Michigan by an Ohio State Football player. And we all know how important that game is! He is the most versatile of the Ohio State signal callers and that ability allows him to get away from potential sacks and make positive plays down the field either throwing the ball or running it himself.
In addition, Troy Smith secured himself a spot as a Heisman Trophy candidate in the 2005 Fiesta Bowl when he almost single handedly beat the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He displayed his tremendous skill the entire game not only as a tremendous player physically but as an influential and motivating leader.
The Ohio State Buckeyes are legitimate contenders for a national title in 2006. Troy Smith is a big reason for the prediction as he provides the Buckeyes with the strong leadership and athletic ability to help his team rise above all the rest. He aims to replicate what another quarterback with the #10 did last season in Austin, Texas. His friend, Vince Young! Troy sees himself as being in a similar situation as Vince Young throughout his career. They both battled critics and skepticism early on in their careers and had to play the back-up role for a period of time. Vince Young came out on top as we all know. The question now remains. Can Troy Smith replicate the same path and come out on top of the college football world just as Vince Young did? I guess we will have to wait and see. It should be fun!
So, as we approach the 2006 season, I warn you, don’t overlook Troy Smith. He may just end up being a heck of show to watch!

Football is all about timing. Not just the timing that is required between the offensive line and the running back, or between the safeties and linebackers on a blitz play, but also the timing of the coach to choose the right plays at the right time. The difference between success and failure rides upon play selection more than any other factor.
