If one were to compile a list of the top European golf courses, it would be a list as rich in history and folklore as the continent itself.  Front and center on all of the magical courses in Europe are European putting greens that challenge the finest golfers even as they inspire.  At Southwest Greens Europe, our residential and commercial golf greens made from the finest artificial grass in the industry mirror the look and feel of Europe’s finest courses.  And if a trek through Europe’s finest courses is on your to-do list before you leave the planet, here are three that would top anyone’s list.

European Golf GreensAny course with the nickname “the Augusta of Europe” is a course worth visiting, and Valderrama, located in Prov de Cadiz, has cemented its reputation as one of the finest courses in the entire world.  If you’re an avid golf fan you’ve no doubt seen Valderrama on TV.  Host to events including the Volvo Masters and the 1997 Ryder Cup, the course is perhaps best known for its 17th hole, Los Gabiones, which was a long par five before water was installed in front of this challenging European golf green.  Valderrama is also the only European club outside of Loch Lamond to be awarded full Audubon Status.  Given Audubon’s mission to conserve and restore natural ecosystems, this is quite an honor indeed.

France’s Morfontaine dates back early 100 years to 1913, when the Duke of Guice’s father transformed in old polo pitch into a 9-hole course at his son’s requests.  These days you don’t have to be a Duke to tee off on this par 70, 5,895 metre course.  You do, however, have to be one of its 450 members, or at least receive an invite from one.  Though not the longest course in France, Morfontaine calls for a strategic approach to the game and provides a healthy challenge every time.

Travel the southern Portuguese coastline and you’ll come upon the coastal town of Vilamoura, which happens to be one of Europe’s most popular golfing destinations.  And while many courses here can provide an inspiring round of golf, none match the grandeur and history of the Vilamoura Old Course.  Considered one of Europe’s finest golf courses for nearly 40 years, this wonderfully crafted tree-lined course rewards accurate driving and compliments the surrounding coastal terrain and vegetation in its layout.

Until such a time when a round on any of Europe’s most legendary courses becomes your reality, we invite you to discover the benefits of bringing the game you love home with you.  Lay the groundwork for a great short game with your own personal putting green courtesy of Southwest Greens Europe today.
