Scuba diving can be fun, but if you are facing too much pressure it can be difficult. It is important to use proper techniques and equipment for equalizing pressure. By equalizing pressure you will be able to have less irritation while scuba diving and be able to have enough air for when you are diving.

Water pressure can be a very strong thing. This means that while your body may not feel too much pressure, areas where you have air will experience it, making it difficult to breathe. If the pressure goes up you will possibly experience bodily damage, including damage to the ear drum. It will be important to know about equalizing pressure so that you can avoid this damage.

Also, you can find out how greatly the pressure is going to affect you by using Boyle’s Law. By multiplying the pressure and volume you should be able to get to the constant of Boyle’s Law. As the pressure goes up, the volume will go down and vice versa.

The first step in equalizing pressure is to help revert air from part of your body to another. For instance, as you begin to feel air pressure going to your ears you should cover your nose and seal off the air to it and blow from your mouth towards your nose.

This will help the air in your ears move to other areas where the volume is greater, thus equalizing pressure throughout your air cavities. This will help you to relieve any tension from water pressure and therefore be able to avoid any damage. Be sure you know how to do this before scuba diving, and be sure to do this whenever you descend or ascend in the water regardless of how you feel.

Remember, equalizing pressure will be difficult if you have allergies or a cold. If you have something like this you will have a difficult time breathing and being able to move air from part of your air cavities to another. If you do have a cold it is recommended that you do not go scuba diving. Also, if you have taken allergy medicine you should not go scuba diving either. Some medicines can make you drowsy, which will result in dangerous scuba diving conditions.

Equipment can also help you with equalizing pressure. An air mask is a good example. The glass covering of the mask will help to resist the pressure of the water. However, the rubbery skirt on the mask will feel the pressure and then compress the air near your eyes.

By breathing calmly through the nose you will be able to be more successful in equalizing pressure and therefore offsetting the pressure on the skirt. It is important to do it slowly because while it can help with equalizing pressure you will fog up your mask if you breathe quickly. Also, the pressure regulator you use will help you to take care of the air in your lungs.

Equalizing pressure can help you to make the scuba diving experience more enjoyable. Equipment can be used for equalizing pressure, but manual breathing skills are also important. Because the pressure and volume will change throughout the water it will be important to understand what to do so that the pressure will not hurt you in your excursion.
