Top 5 childrens attractions in Dubai
Dubai has much to offer adults with the sun drenched beaches, bustling nightlife and tax free shopping -but what about the kids? Luckily Dubai caters for all interests and age groups and although there are numerous attractions for kids under construction right now ( including some to rival disneyworld!) there are plenty of existing parks and attractions to keep the little ones happy.
1)Za'Abeel park - opened in 2005 this sprawling 51 acre park has gorgeous lakes and ponds, sports facilities and Imax theatre, panoramic tower and technology zone - entertainment mixed with education and fun - a win-win situation for parents!
2) Creekside park and childrens city - Beautiful waterfront park is one of the largest in Dubai, peaceful with tremendous views across the creek. There are safe childrens play areas, abra rides and dhow cruises, resteraunts, ampitheatre and pristine beaches, however the kids favourite has to be the 2.5km cable ride - kids love zooming over the park at heights of 30m! Inside Creekside park there is also "childrens city" a creative and educational fun place with activities to keep the kids amused all day.
3)Ski Dubai - what snow skiing in the desert? Yes thats right, ski slopes and kids entertainment with articial snow slap bang in the middle of the desert! This attraction has all the angles covered: snowpark for the kids, permanent quarter pipe for snowboarders, gentle beginners slopes with instruction and the worlds first indoor "black" run for those seeking some thrills and adventure - basically its as if someone has transplanted a luxury European ski resort and placed it in the desert. best of all its completely safe - the snow is not made of any harmful chemicals its just produced at artificial temperatures but its actually real snow!
4) Wild wadi waterpark - think Florida theme park with an Arabian twist, tons of interconnected rides loosely based on the adventures of Arabian adventurer's Juha and Sinbad. Lush lagoons, magical oasis, water safety lessons run for children and sedate rides for younger tots ( and nervous adults!) artificial waves for surfing and the main course - jumeriah Sceirah, a truly terrifying ordeal for the more adventorous. Ride the waves on body boards and relax knowing the children are completely safe with lifeguards always to hand.
5) Wonderland theme park - Dubai desert extreme skatepark - for older kids into the skating craze this currently id Dubai's only permanent skatepark. There is plenty to keep the kids occupied for a few hours and all neccessary safety kit and equipment including helmets (compulsory) are available to hire.
If you want to have a quiet day/night in the hotel, have no fear, many hotels operate childrens programs with safety and entertainment in mind. For instance the Ritz-Carlton, has a scheme called "Protect Our Little Ones" (POLO). This is an innovative policy that installs several safety features to rooms that are to be inhabited by children, including a nightlight, Johnson's baby amenities, first aid plasters and safety plugs for the sockets. In addition each child (or Very Important Kid - VIK) is contacted prior to arrival and a special children's amenity awaits them in their room. A programme is devised for their stay and a memorable gift is presented for them to take home. There is also a Ritz Kids Club offering full and half day programmes seven days a week.
The Emirates has to be one of the most "children friendly" places for a holiday in the world. Emirates Airlines has launched a new program at the Dubai International Airport, in that they offer strollers for your use free of charge while at the airport. This will be a big help to parents that have checked-in their stroller, but still need to get around the airport. Their campaign on child safety in the car is a typical example. It seems that they fitted over 100 local taxis with child restraint safety seats, at no extra cost to the taxi owners or passengers.
