You have hung up your cap and gown, the parties are over with, summer is here and time for a part time job while you decide what to do next.  Your parents are talking college in the fall and you are seriously thinking of it since you got those sports scholarships to use.  You were happy to be awarded your letterman jacket and the scholarships thrilled your parents.

Research has begun by mom and dad as they check into the schools around home so there isn’t too much travel or a housing fee to worry about,  You took all the right classes for college prep, took the entrance exams from a few schools, college boards and everything else your high school counselor recommended.

Check the schools out in person if you can, make a few appointments and visit. Ask questions; get a tour if you can.  Ask about offerings at the school, make sure they have what your child is interested in majoring in , if there is a sports program  see what the requirements are for joining especially if your child was a jock in high school chances are they will enjoy the same only on a different level in college.

Check out the financial end of education as well, are there options for financing, what are the rates, when are payments due and how about student loans? There is much to think about and even more to do as you prepare for furthering education of your son or daughter.

As you are planning and deciding on a future with your child, you cannot help remember watching this one as a little kid, parading around in her preschool cap and gown. Then into kindergarten, her first “real” school, then on to first grade, and another graduation from grade school to high school and in another four short years they are getting awards for excellence and a letterman jacket.

The time passes faster than we realize until we go back and see how things have changed through the years. Babies grow so fast that it seems like it is in the blink of an eye they are in school, dating, graduating from high school  and on to college and we want to preserve these memories too as they become part of the family history.  Our children with a lot of patience, understanding and love grow into great young adults, self-confident and ready to handle the world.
