Teaching English in Mexico City: The Zona Rosa Part 1

Once you’re housed and fed, it’s time to get working. In Mexico City, the best area to start your English language teaching job search is the Zona Rosa. Here are some suggestions to help get you started.

Working in the Zona Rosa and Beyond

Harmon Hall has a substantial presence throughout Mexico and there are 27 locations in Mexico City alone. The Zona Rosa location listed here is extremely busy all year and in constant need of English teachers. The pay is moderate at best, although this is a good place to gain some training and experience if you’re short on either. It’s on the third floor of the same building where Quick Learning is located, on Liverpool near the corner of Amberes. In addition to its Zona Rosa location, Quick Learning has 16 other locations. The setup and programs are similar to Harmon Hall an the Zona Rosa location is even in the same building as Harmon Hall, on the first floor. The competition for students is that fierce. General English, Business English and intensive courses are available. Salary is based on experience, tenure, number and type of classes taught.

Right on Hamburgo, in the thick of things in the Zona Rosa, this institute is very well located and constantly busy, especially in the Spring and Summer months. Tons of facilities and activities of every type are all around, so the students can put their classroom studies into immediate, practical use. The Zona Rosa is rampant with English-speaking foreigners so even the panhandlers ply their “trade” in English. If you stop in with a brief resume and certificate and/or diploma copies handy you’ll be working almost before you’re out the door if it’s a busy time for them. (Which it almost always is) This should be one of your stops while you’re making the rounds of this area.

For the very computer literate and technically-minded, and with a whopping 80 locations throughout Mexico, this school provides courses in general and technical English. There are quite a number of courses available at times so the opportunities can be quite good. This is a welcome change from the usual business or general English only options available at most institutes.
