Goal setting and realization are a difficult task for most people. As simple as it may seem to be, thinking about and setting a goal is not really that easy. Just like anything else, there are steps and methodologies that have been used by successful persons - systematic approaches to ensure success.

Analysts, motivational gurus and psychologists have discovered that successful people have developed a 10- step process on how to write down and realize their goals.

All of successful persons recommend that goals have to be written down in order to give us clearer (thereby more manageable) outlooks as to how to accomplish the goals. When you write down your goals, make sure they conform to the following guidelines:

1. DEFINITE and CLEAR. It is easier to accomplish a task if you are aware of the necessary steps to be carried out. If your goals are vague and ambiguous, their accomplishment will be a hit or miss exercise.

2. SIMPLICITY. Commit yourself to goals that are clear-cut and unambiguous; complex goals will surely result in zero accomplishments, if at all.

3. IMPORTANT. The goal you set must be valuable; it is human nature to take care of something that is personally valuable; we do everything to protect and ensure that anything of value is safe and sound.

4. PURPOSEFUL. For your goals to be achievable, make sure that they will provide benefits and comforts in your life. Make sure your goals will give you fulfillment, accomplishment and improvement.

5. MEASURABLE. Itemize your goals in terms of time, duration, significance or advantage so that you are able to determine your progress over a period of time.

6. REALISTIC. Set goals that are logical and possible to achieve. For example, if you want to be a successful businessperson, first you have to have a business, right?

7. CONCRETE. Visualize your goals so they become tangible to your senses, so much so that they inspire and motivate you to action.

8. WRITTEN. Daily activities including problems and frustrations, more often than not, make us forget what needs to be done. The same thing happens with our goals, if we don not write them down we will most certainly forget them once we are bogged down with life's daily obstacles.

9. SHARED. By sharing your aspirations with your family, the people you love, you indirectly generate the positive energy they have to help you accomplish what you set out to do. Sharing draws support, encouragement and determination from people who matters most in your life.

10. IN TUNE WITH YOUR PRINCIPLES IN LIFE. Your goals should reflect your moral values and principles in order to be achievable. If not, it would be an almost impossible task just to set out and achieve any of them because they conflict with everything you believe in.
