Everyday Grace
Are you tired of wishing, waiting and being disappointed? Does change seem far away? Does acquiring happiness seem like its too much work? How about 10 minutes? I guarantee this will work!
Everything starts with a thought. Think back to last week, how was your week? How did your days go? Each September there is a whirlwind of activity, children go back to school, and hobbies and activities are resumed. Everything seems a bit more hectic, more rushed and a the month of September seems to fly by. How many of you have been wrestling with a desire to change. Perhaps you squash the idea as quickly as it revisits because you have no time, no energy or maybe no extra cash. Maybe for some, right now isn’t the time to make a dramatic change, maybe the thought is overwhelming.
Maybe right now you doubt your abilities or lack the energy to create a change? If you look back on your last week and wish for this upcoming week to be better, either remotely or you wish for a dramatic difference, can you afford 10 minutes? How about a small change? How about a change of 10 minutes?
Consider how you start your day. The morning is an divine opportunity to ask the universe for some guidance. Each day many people use this time to gulp coffee, rush around to prepare for the day, bark itineraries and barge off into the world. That harried, rushed, always late feeling follows them all day and when they finally fall into bed each evening they grumble and groan at how there is never enough time.
What if you just changed one thing? Tomorrow morning, take 10 minutes. For 10 whole minutes, sit alone, quietly, peacefully. If you can’t do this without your cup of coffee or tea, then make sure you caress that cup and savor every sip.
Slow down. Taste, feel, smell. Breathe, think, dream. It is helpful to set a timer so you don’t interrupt the splendour by constantly checking the time.
Enjoy these 10 minutes and make wishes. Ask the universe for blessings and sit quietly and enjoy all the thoughts that accompany your wishes. Ten beautiful minutes can change your day; can you afford not to consider trying it? If you say you don’t have 10 minutes, I don’t believe you!
Get really good at your 10 minutes, get selfish with them, as you crawl into bed at night, secretly plan what you will add to your 10 minutes. An aromatic candle? A pillow positioned by a warm, sunny window? Your favourite quilt to wrap around you if there is a chill? There are few don’ts…no TV, no radio, no electronics of any kind, no work, no interruptions and no one else. Be creative with your 10 minutes and take responsibility for creating your day by giving you the start you deserve. Enter the day making a connection with yourself and the universe. Just 10 minutes. Think about it.
Try this tomorrow, you won’t be disappointed. Everyday should be started with a small gesture of everyday grace.
This exercise can be adapted for anyone at any place....no room for excuses. Give it a whirl, you won't be disappointed.
All the best, Liane Fitzpatrick
