Hypnosis De-mystified

When I talk to people about what I do, I find that they are generally aware of the power of hypnosis and are interested to learn more, but are still afraid of the process. They have heard stories of stage hypnotists inducing volunteers to do silly things and fear they will be out of control.
The most important point I can make is that you should not expect to feel ‘hypnotised’ in any way. Hypnosis, or trance, is a natural state that you experience just before you fall asleep and just before you wake up. You often access trance states during the course of your day, for example when you daydream, watch TV, play a sport or drive your car.
What you should expect is to feel pleasantly relaxed when you are in trance. It is a normal state and most clients only need a light trance to make fundamental change in their lives.
Hypnosis is a co-operative effort between practitioner and client to help you establish better communication with your unconscious mind. No one can hypnotise you apart from yourself. You are in control. So you are always in charge – you will only accept suggestions that are in line with your values and beliefs.
In the trance state, your conscious and unconscious minds are able to connect more fully than usual and you can communicate a desire to your unconscious mind, for example to eat only healthy and nutritious foods and only when you are hungry.
Whereas before you relied on sheer willpower (the conscious mind) to keep away from the chocolate and cakes, and inevitably succumbed in a moment of weakness, now your unconscious mind is totally in tune with your conscious desire and you will find that you simply no longer even think about eating unless you are hungry!
People are often amazed by how differently they think about their old problem, straight after the session! If you were previously terrified by the mere thought of spiders, you will find that you are now unperturbed by the idea of encountering one. If public speaking brought you out in a sweat, you will feel completely relaxed about your next event.
Hypnosis helps people make fundamental changes for good in their lives – but only if they really want to! It is no good sending along your partner because you want them to give up smoking! If they are not ready to give up the habit, the unconscious mind will still be working against the change.
If you are ready to make a positive change in your life, seek out a hypnotherapist and you will soon be on your way!
