It's My Right to Insult You!

"But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness" (John 3:17,18).

I am na?ve enough to believe that the peacemakers will indeed inherit the earth. Those in the world and of the world have already inherited the world. God bless them and help them.

Of course here we are again with that crazy word “submission.” It’s pretty much a given that in a quarrel someone has to give in, but we are of the enlightened generation that insists on our right to insult and denigrate, no matter how small the injury. What a shame!

Years ago a dear friend gave me very wise advice. She suggested that I visually imagine Jesus standing between the person who is peeling off my ego and myself. He is standing there between us to accept the verbal blows, and to forgive us both, for I try to remember my own part. I, too, have contributed to this problem. I have also learned to look upon this person as my personal pearl, given in love by my Father who knows what I need. Pearls are made through irritation!

I would like to share some quotes and Bible verses that have helped me enormously in the journey toward being a kinder, gentler person:

Grace for our thorn: "Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, `My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness" (2Corinthians 12:8,9).

"Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake" (Matthew 5:11, 1 Peter 4:14).

Especially, “Forgive them, Father, for they know not what they do.” It is possible that the person has no idea of how much his/her actions grieve us.
