I was shopping at Costco one day and on my way out I noticed some gym pants in the clothing area, so I walked over to the table to take a closer look. While I was checking out the colors and sizes, I noticed the sales person across the table watching me, so I smiled. She then said “you are so small. Do you have any children?” I said “yes. I have two sons.” She said she use to weigh 98 pounds until she had her kids and now “look at this stomach!!” I smiled and told her “I don’t think I’m so small (as soon as those words came out of my mouth I said to myself, “There you go again playing yourself down for the sake of someone else’s self esteem”) I continued by saying “we’re always picking at ourselves. You look great!” (and she did) then I wished her a good day. As I walked to the check-out line I started wondering where do we get these lenses that we see ourselves through? When do the lenses help us and when do they hurt us? Are we even conscious of our picking? Pick, pick, pick………….I want bigger breast, I want smaller breast, I want straight hair, I want curly hair, I want long legs, I want high cheek bones……..needle, needle, needle. Why are we not as conscious of our thinking as we are about the way we look? Hummm, do you think there would be as much cosmetic surgery if we did what Benjamin Franklin said……..empty our purse into our head? Now, I’m not against fashion or enhancing what you’ve got. It’s fun to go shopping and get dressed up. I’m just saying new clothes, a new car, a new house, a new job, or a man won’t fix what’s going on in your head. Stuff and people won’t fill the pit of unhappiness you feel in your soul. That’s your spirit and it will never find true peace if you don’t connect with it. I didn’t realize that until I started investing more in my thinking than I did in accumulating stuff. In fact, I guarantee you that when you find the real you - the YOU that finally says “I’m not this job, I’m not that car, and I’m not this outfit” - you’ll care less about all that stuff in your closet and more about your purpose, passion, and meaningful relationships.

So, how do you start finding you? Start with gratitude. It is the best way I know to get in touch with your higher self, which is not concerned about appearance and things. Having a heart of gratitude will move you to a state of thanks and appreciation for the abundance that already exist in your life. It is a practice that will raise your spirit and move you away from competition (thinking about what everybody else has or what you don’t have). Find time and a quiet space each day to give thanks to God for all of His blessings, from the gift of opening your eyes to a new day, to sustaining you all the days of your life. Start, and your higher self and your spirit will take over. Make gratitude a daily practice. If you start in the morning, you’ll find yourself giving thanks throughout the day. In gratitude you don’t make less of who you are or what you have, because in gratitude there is no lack or scarcity. There is only endless abundance.

Let’s Do Something Amazing Together,
