Stress Reduction Techniques: Culling Negative Energy

How do you eliminate and minimize stress in your life? One technique I use is to get rid of items in your house that have negative energetic patterns embedded in them.
Let me give you an example:
For years I had, as one of my office decorations, a rattle that was given to me for taking care of a client’s dog.
I had no idea what I was getting into at the time or why I volunteered to care for the dog. The dog needed a special diet, baths every other day (boy did it stink), lots of exercise, and I had no place to keep it at home so I had to drive to my place of business twice each evening and earlier than I would normally go to work to take it out and exercise it. He barked constantly most of the day disrupting my peace of mind and the peace of mind of my clients.
I had asked, as payment, for a percussion instrument to be brought back for me from Africa, where the client went with her church. I envisioned a large, hand-made drum. What I got was a rattle. The owner bragged how she had only paid a nickel for it.
Every time I saw that rattle I “rattled” off that story. And I had that rattle several years!
One day it dawned on me that I had effectively cleaned my environment of everything having to do with any negative emotion except that rattle. When a client picked the rattle up, I started to relay the broken record story once again, then stopped myself. . .
“Take the rattle. I’m sure you will enjoy it much more than I have.” I said. Ha! It’s gone. What a relief. My entire environment that I work in for hours every day is now filled with total peace, beauty and positive energy.
The point of the story is that it’s good to occasionally go through your house and your belongings and “gift” those things that no long fit your emotional goals to someone who will enjoy them. It doesn’t matter how you do it. You can have a yard sale, a give-away sale, set them on the curb or give them to the Goodwill or Salvation Army, but get rid of these items that are holding you as an emotional hostage. You’ll be glad you did.
