Whose Language Are You Using?

Recently I saw the movie Conversations with God, by Neal Donald Walsh. The movie allows the viewer to share in the experience of the creation of the books by the same name. The line that struck home was when he said, "God speaks to us in our own language so we can hear".

Have you ever wondered why your children don't listen? Why there is a struggle to get clients to purchase your product or service? Why there's conflict in the office? Why your spouse just doesn't hear you?

The questions that arise include; are you communicating from ego or compassion? Are you speaking in your language or theirs? Is the message something they need to hear? Is the message something you need to hear and just haven't been listening to yourself?

As I heard that line in the theater I knew one of my obstacles was my own language, my need to make it my job or duty to get them to hear me. It hit me that if God sees fit to talk to me in my language, out of love, what ego (edging God out) based fear is prompting me to come at this from a moral, self-righteous "duty" platform? If God get's His message across to billions, maybe there's something to His form of communication.

If you or I have a message to deliver, if we are passionate about what we are saying, how much more powerful is it when it is put it in words that others can hear and understand?

I see it everyday when individuals let their buttons get pushed because someone is speaking in a language other than English, when the speaker is using "big" words or when the verbiage is "insiders" or "click" language. The list of "whys" includes statements like; because it feels like they think they're better than us. Maybe they are saying something "about us". Maybe they are hatching some "evil" plot to overthrow the government. One would thing that it is ridiculous how far we'll let our imaginations go as a result of fear or frustration.

But that's the point. We do twist it all up because of our beliefs and our choices. If we can recognize that piece of human nature - how successful could we be in our communications? If we have a message to get across, to business partners, associates, clients, family, or friends, it's just possible that putting it in terms so simple as to ensure that all within the hearing of our voices will feel the power of the words, is tantamount to ultimate success and moreover, just as Neal Walsh said, it is done from a place of love; from that magnificent place of power in each of us.

What voice will you choose to speak with today?
