Bedding Down at the Sonar Festival
Hostels in Barcelona for Sonar
Sonar Festival is a one-of-a-kind event taking place in the uniquely enthralling Spanish city of Barcelona. Taking place between June 19th and 20th at various venues, it’s one of the most exciting European summer music festivals.
As is so often the case with having a great trip, choosing the right Barcelona hostel can be the difference between a good and a great festival experience. Fortunately, there are plenty of fantastic places to choose from.
La Ciutat Hostel
Barcelona's Sonar is a 24-hour event and performances take place throughout the day and night at varying costs. For this reason, it is important to select a Barcelona hostel that offers cheap rooms and 24-hour reception.
The Ciutat Hostel by Park Guell is both cheap and 24-hour, and certainly does not scrimp on the comfort front with internet and a lounge area. Perhaps most importantly, its excellent transport links make it easy to fit sleeping schedules around gigs rather than vice versa.
Alberg Pere Tarres
And taking advantage of this festival is also about having access to the right transport. Since its launch in 1993, the number of venues hosting performance at Sonar has grown, particularly at night.
Not only does the Alberg Pere Tarres Hostel offer excellent facilities – including 24-hour hot showers and reception, bar, restaurant and games room – it also offers great transport links unrivalled by almost any other cheap Barcelona hostel.
Both day and night buses run to the city centre and suburbs, while it is also close to Metro stations and within ten minutes walk of Sants Railway Station. Safety is also high on the Pere Tarres agenda, with lockers offered in its shared dorm rooms.
BCN Loft
Of course not everyone attending Sonar will be happy with shared accommodation, but for those couples and singles seeking a little more privacy the BCN Loft is an excellent choice of Barcelona hostel.
Situated next to Las Ramblas, it is also within easy reach of one of Sonar's main daytime performance venues, the Centre of Contemporary Culture or CCCB. It also offers users complete independence to come and go as they please as well as walking access to Barcelona's old town.
