Bournemouth on a Budget

Bournemouth is a lively, bustling town on the south western coast of England. For budget travelers, however, it manages to trump many other British towns with a combination of flawless sandy beaches and budget-friendly Bournemouth hostels.

Getting there

Travelers can fly into Bournemouth airport direct from European destinations as far afield as Iceland, Portugal and Poland. Bournemouth cheap accommodation – as central as it comes – is also easily accessed from elsewhere in the UK, making it an excellent stop-over during a tour of Britain.

But Bournemouth is undoubtedly most famous for its beach. Golden sand and crystal blue waters are normally associated with expensive flights and luxury hotels, but Bournemouth wholeheartedly satisfies on the beach front while serving up a host of cheap surprises to boot.

The 12-mile stretch of sun-kissed coastline between Poole Harbour and Bournemouth is so highly regarded by the British tourism industry that it has been awarded with no less than eight Blue Flag beach awards.

Eating out and nightlife

A long day stretched out in the sun can be thirsty work, though. Which is where Bournemouth’s many bars, clubs and restaurants come in!

One of the UK’s liveliest cities, many of its bars can be found on and around Exeter Road and Old Christchurch Road, while the Triangle is the city’s small but active gay neighborhood.

Things to see and do

Aside from the beach and the pier, Bournemouth hostels and the rest of Bournemouth cheap accommodation are conveniently located within easy reach of the city’s other budget-friendly attractions that are sure to keep the budget traveler entertained.

Bournemouth's public gardens hark back to its Victorian post-war heyday, offering ever-changing horticultural displays that provide the perfect setting for a romantic picnic or indulging in some outdoor summer activities.

Bournemouth Pier, meanwhile, was refurbished in 1946 and comes complete with a theatre, provides light entertainment in between lazy days on the beach and also boasts a mini funfair, restaurant and bar.

Even on less sunny days, Bournemouth leaves travelers with plenty to keep them entertained. The gothic St Peters Church and its adjoining graveyard houses some famous historical figures, while the Russell-Cotes Art Gallery and Museum is a little known free entry cultural gem.
