Hostels for under $25

With a busy center and dramatic views from the iconic hilly streets, San Francisco is also surrounded by the ocean, making it an interesting mix of urban cool and beach resort that attracts crowds of visitors each year.

It’s a fascinating city for independent travelers, packed with vibrant music, bars and nightlife and an alternative art scene. Yet it remains laid-back and unpretentious– a welcome antithesis of the sometimes overbearing brashness of the East Coast cities and the superficiality of Los Angeles, California’s other world-famous metropolis.

What makes it even more attractive for backpackers and young people, however, is the affordable cost of accommodation and living, particularly in comparison to other major US destinations.

San Francisco Hostels make up some of the cheapest in the country and it’s easy to find a bed for under $25 in your perfect location in the city!

Stay downtown

A few blocks from the lively neighborhood of Union Square, Amsterdam Hostel is in the perfect location for visiting San Francisco’s renowned shops, bars and restaurants. Stay in the sunshine

Elements Hostel is a brand new hostel with spacious rooms and modern facilities in the central Mission district. Slightly south of the main hub of tourism and smog, this is the home of the artist studios, parks and trendy bars that make San Francisco so exciting. With an outdoor café and a huge, sunny roof terrace, this hostel is tailor-made for great budget travel and a steal from $20 a night.

Stay by the water

Located in the north of the city and with views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman’s Wharf Hostel is a short walk from the urban beach at Aquatic Park. Relax along the bay or take a sailing lesson from the nearby Fort Mason Center in the day then enjoy this lively international hostel and the bustling nighttime scene of North Beach’s Chinatown, Fisherman’s Wharf and Little Italy, all from $21.
