For those of us that live in San Diego, we all know we have it lucky. If you are looking for a break from the winter months, you might consider a quick trip to San Diego.
77 degrees, shorts, tank top, flip flops, windows open. Yep, this is the situation as I write this on a “brisk” San Diego day. Oh, I should probably mention it is November 19th. While it may be an expensive place to live, there is little doubt that the climate in San Diego makes it all worth it. Okay, maybe not when you consider homes costs $700,000, but I am willing to rent.
Most people come to visit San Diego in the summer for obvious reasons. Summer on the beach is the prototypical one. The kids are out of school. You can head to the famous San Diego Zoo. You can catch a Padres game out in the sun. Then again, you can just lounge on the beach all day. All of these are good reasons, but a trip to San Diego has a lot going for it as well.
If you head to San Diego in the winter, you are going to find a lot of great things. First, it is warm. Near panic breaks out here when the temperature drops below 65 every so often. Rain? We don’t need no stinking rain. Heck, a wet winter is a whopping 12 inches of rain for the entire year! In short, you are going to find a fairly warm, dry climate that can be a nice change from the snow, cold and rain of other locations.
Another great reason for coming to San Diego in the winter is the lack of other travelers. You can lay on beaches in relative solitude. You can hit the local restaurant scene and see nary a line. You can actually visit the San Diego Zoo without having to bring a crowbar to wedge yourself between people to see exhibits. If pro football is your thing, you can always score tickets to Chargers games. If college is more your taste, the Holiday Bowl offers the best game every year with the winner usually being decided on the last play.
If you are growing tired of the cold, rain and snow this winter, relief is a short flight away. Give San Diego a try and you will not regret it.
