Everyone has a book to write. I’m sure you’ve heard that saying over and over again. I’m also sure that you have often thought that you couldn’t possibly get it done, even if you wanted to. Well, I’m telling you it is possible, and it can happen more quickly than you ever thought possible.
The plain truth is you can write a book, whether you believe it right now or not. Since you found this article and you are reading it, then if follows that you want to write and want to learn to write.
You, too, can use your knowledge and sell it in the form of a book. Everyone thinks that their experience and knowledge is ordinary and not worth anything, which is far from reality. Actually, everyone possesses a body of knowledge or expertise that can be packaged and sold to others. For the most part, it is just a matter of learning to believe in yourself and developing the will to put your knowledge in writing.
Everyone is an expert in something, and YOU are no exception. Your knowledge and experience was likely earned through a painful learning curve that others will gladly avoid by listening to your message. Why are you are reading this? In all likelihood, you wanted to learn something about how to write successfully. If you think you can’t write a book, what proof do you have of that? The following guidelines will benefit you in your endeavor to write your first book:
- 1. Develop an outline--include all the points you want your audience to know.
- 2. Write like you are having a conversation with the reader. This will draw the reader in, and keep them reading.
- 3. Be aware of your audience and their level of knowledge of the subject at hand. Don’t talk above or below that level of knowledge.
- 4. Use thought-provoking statements and questions to draw your readers in.
- 5. Use descriptive language, creating a clear mental picture of what you want your reader to see or understand.
- 6. Know your topic very thoroughly and from every angle possible. The more ways you can present knowledge to your readers, the better they will understand your message.
- 7. Get a good editor who has knowledge of your topic. Most writers do not make good editors, and an outside viewpoint is invaluable to find the flaws in your writing that need fixing.
You may not be a writer, but you can write a book. Writing a book is just as easy as explaining something to another person with an interest in the topic. Remember, the secret to accomplishing just about anything is to believe you can. If you believe it, you can do it.
