  • The White Sox Are Wondering: "What Happened?"

    Rating:

An old chum of mine, a former athlete and employee at Indiana State University, was fond of saying there are three kinds of people:(1) Those who make things happen; (2) Those who watch things happen; and (3) Those who scratch their heads and wonder: “What happened?”The Chicago White Sox, you know them, they were last year’s World Series Champions, have traversed these three categories in little more than half a season.Running neck and neck with this year’s best performing team, the Detroit Tigers, the Sox were making things happen.Read more…
  • Baseball, Barry Bonds and Steroids

    Rating:

In the last 5 years the growing popularity and use of illegal substances (steroids) in major league baseball has created a public outcry and led to indictments, arrests and congressional hearings. Some have even put major league baseball on par with professional wrestling as it is now a drugged or ‘juiced’ game and old, lasting records by the greats like Ruth and Hank Aaron can easily be broken by lesser athletes on steroids and have become meaningless. Just look at Barry Bonds for an example.Read more…

  • Fox Baseball Market Bias?

    Rating:

Fox TV only seems to be interested in large market teams for its regular season national broadcasts of Major League Baseball on Saturday afternoons. I can't remember the last time I saw on of their games that didn't include at least one of the following teams: New York Yankees, New York Mets, Los Angeles Angels, Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, Boston Red Sox, Atlanta Braves, Houston Astros, San Francisco Giants, and Philadelphia Phillies. That's only 11 out of the 30 MLB teams that get showcased.Read more…

  • Friday Night Lights

    Rating:

The lights were on and the music was blaring from the old Yankee Stadium speakers in center-field, as the crowd filed in slowly on this middle-July evening. After tossing warm-ups in the bullpen prior to the game, Jose Contreras made the long walk from the bullpen to the visitor’s bench, to a mild chorus of boo’s as bitter Yankee fans showed that there was very little “love” lost from his underachieving days as a Bronx Bomber. Randy Johnson was next to come out from behind the walls of the Yankee Stadium outfield, and he was treated to gracious cheers from the fans, probably due to The Unit having quality outings (6 IP, 3ER or less) in four of his last five starts.Read more…
  • Friday Night Lights: Part II

    Rating:

After a perfect inning from Farnsworth in the eighth, the Yankees would have Alex Rodriguez coming to the plate to lead off the inning. Guillen left Contreras on the mound for the Sox, which would later come back to haunt Ozzie. A-Rod led off the inning with a blazing liner to left field, starting things off with a single.Read more…

  • White Sox Choke: I Told You So!

    Rating:

It’s only the third game into the second half of the 2006 season and the Chicago White Sox are living what I prophesied oh, four or five weeks back. They’re choking. I predicted:(1) They’d have to settle for the Wild Card berth or less;(2) The Yankees would surge and threaten for the Wild Card; and(3) Detroit would gain ground in July based on an easier schedule.Read more…
  • Yanks Beat Sox: How Sweep It Is!

    Rating:

The New York Yankees finished up a sweep of the defending World Series Champions, Chicago White Sox, with a 6-4 victory on a Sunday afternoon in the Bronx. Jaret Wright provided 5.1 innings of decent pitching, allowing 3 ER and 8 H, while walking 2 and striking out 1. It certainly wasn’t a performance remotely similar to his outing prior to the All Star break against the Devil Rays, but the Sox are a much better team than Tampa, and Wright has always pitched well against the Devil Rays in his career as a Yankee.Read more…
  • Baseball A Team Sport - ALL FOR ONE and ONE FOR ALL

    Rating:

Baseball teams that are destined to be winners are those players which live and believe The Three Musketeers motto. As my brother Bailey allows the story to unfold I'm sure you can agree his telling of Alexandre Dumas' classic is an appropriate parallel to win at baseball, "It must be Team."See if you agree.Read more…

  • Wright on Track

    Rating:

Hey, if Jared Wright is going to only give us six innings or less every start, he better have more outings like last night’s against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Wright allowed only four hits, and struck out ten batters, while not yielding a single run to a potent D-Ray lineup. The Yankees only had three hits in the entire game, but they needed just one in this pitcher’s duel.Read more…
  • The Young Guns

    Rating:

The Mets managed to split their doubleheader this afternoon against the Marlins, falling 3-2 in the first game, and then clobbering the Marlins 17-3 in the second game of the twin-bill. While it’s nice that the Mets managed to win the second game and split the series, it doesn’t really make that big of a difference given their huge lead in the NL East. What’s more important to take out of these two games is how well their young, rookie pitchers fared against the Marlins.Read more…
  • David Can't Slay the Goliath

    Rating:

The lone New York representative in the 2006 Home Run Derby was fan-favorite David Wright. After an opening round onslaught of sixteen home runs, Wright was only able to hit six more homers throughout the course of the next two rounds, and eventually fell to the Phillies’ Ryan Howard 5-4 in the finals. Thankfully for the Mets, this will be the only time this season that the Phillies will win anything.Read more…

Fantasy baseball, in all it's incarnations and iterations may seem a little unwieldy to the uninitiated, but it's really not that difficult to participate in, just requires a little time and persistence to get started. Many camps seem to have a myriad of rules, regulations and procedures to follow. However; it wouldn't have the following it does, if it wasn't easy enough for the average beer swilling baseball fan to engage in.

  • Basics of Baseball Betting - By: RJ Bell
While football and basketball are the most popular sports to bet on, baseball could be the easiest for beginners once you understand how to read the money line. Money line gambling is the primary wagering option for baseball bettors, which involves betting on the straight-up game outcome with no consideration for a point spread. Oddsmakers use the money line so that more money must be risked on the favorite or expected winner and less money on the underdog to balance the action on both sides.

The automotive world was introduced to economies of scale in 1954 as Nash and Hudson (yes, those were makes of cars exactly 52 years ago) merged to form American Motors. Both Nash and Hudson models are history now. Heck, American Motors has taken a hike since then too.
  • The Traditional American Game - By: Jonathon Hardcastle
Like life in traditional society, but unlike football and basketball, the other two major American team sports, baseball is not governed by the clock and amazes many foreigners that it is the "national sport" in a fast-paced United States. Being a very popular team sport, apart from North America also in Latin America, the Caribbean and East Asia, baseball is a bat-and-ball game in which a pitcher throws a fist-sized hard ball past the hitting area of a batter. The batter, who belongs to the other team, then attempts to hit the ball with a smooth, cylindrical bat made of wood or metal.
